BI PAP AUTO PICK UP IN THE AM

Post by CarolinaBlueMax » Wed Nov 09, 2005 3:03 pm

Hey just a quick note ...I am pumped my sleep Doc just called me back and said she would write a script for me to try the new auto bi pap My DME and the Resperonics rep said they would let me try it for a few weeks and see what it will do for me! With No Charge Crazy they have lost their minds...Sounds like this poor hose head has caught a break! Can't wait to take a puff of auto bi pap air mmmmm I can almost taste it....

I am slowly becoming addicted to air supplied thru a hose...Somebody stop me!

If you are used to strong air at night, don't expect it from the auto. It starts out low, like in ramp and slowly builds to a theraputic level of treatment. (You can set it to bilevel only, but that defeats the auto )It is a kewl machine if you can stand the lower pressure to begin with. If you go to the bathroom and turn it off...it starts all over at the lower pressure. My machine always promptly puts me to sleep.

Thanks for the info guest....I'm starting to get sleepy just thinking about it...
I switched from my bi level to the auto and like the way it works and the way i feel after a nights sleep( took about 3 weeks for the fog to start lifting-still not where i want to be yet). . I started the auto about 1 month ago and have been having the best sleep since i started breathing through a tube in 2002. Can't wait to post my results

Oh, are you swapping from a auto cpap to an auto bipap? There should be a good difference.....lots of pressure drop on EPAP that you don't get with the CPAP...Good luck..

Yes I am...The auto has been a definite step up from the plain bi pap, mostly because my bi pap titration was a flop and didn't really find a pressure that would work for me.The titration the lab suggested for me was 20/12 and at that level i had 18 central apneas 2 hypop 1 obstr apnea an ahi of 12.5 and a Sao2 of 88 Fun and games

If you are interested, there is some good reading on the post..Respironics Bipap Auto First Night Impression. There is a lot of explanations on it concerning the auto bipap. Your 20/8 would be a Max PS setting of 8. In my humble opinion, I do believe you have all the qualifications to be a hose head like the rest of us. And I thought my 5.2 AHI was high. Normally I can keep mine around 2 but the auto allowed it to reach 5 one night. With straight bipap, I can get it down to 1 and below. I may change back.

Oh yeah, wonder why they would say 20/12? Seems to me they would shut down the EPAP to 4-6 to reduce the apneas by supplying more pressure on EPAP? Why not 20/16? Were you having that much trouble exhaleing against the higher EPAP settings?

Unfortunately I didn't get to ask the tech why she did the study like she did...she started me off at 5/5 and worked her way up to 20/12 I was surprised that she didn't raise the Epap. This is the pressures she used
5/5 ahi(0) RDI 8.8
6/5(0) RDI 42.6
7/5(0) RDI 6.4
8/5(5.7) RDI 5.8
8/6(95.2) from here on out the AHI and RDI are about the same
8/7 (109.4)
9/7 (120.5)
9/8 (115.6)
10/8 (101.3)
11/8 (90.0)
12/8 (93.4)
13/8 (83.4)
13/10 (102.9)
14/10 (84.6)
15/10 (16.6)
16/10 (72.7)
16/11 (83.7)
17/11 (60.5)
18/11 (46.3)
16/12 (9.4)
18/12 (36.1)
19/12 (31.0)
20/12(12.5)
I have been on auto cpap for 6 weeks here is a snap shot

Machine is set at min/max 20/8

week 1 95% pressure 14.2 AHI 12.5
week 2 95% pressure 16.5 AHI 10.4
week 3 95% pressure 14.2 AHI 8.5
week 4 95% pressure 12.4 AHI 6.9
week 5 95% pressure 12.2 AHI 4.4
week 6 95% pressure 12.6 AHI 6.1

I feel better now that I have that off my chest lol.....anyhow it will be interesting to see how the Auto Bi pap titrates this poor hose head
