Bipap Auto question

Post by rajk » Mon Oct 04, 2010 9:00 am

Hello All,

I started using a new Philips Respiconics System One Bipap Auto with Biflex.

It has been running on Bipap Auto mode since last 30 days, it was fine and I was getting a good sleep initially, but about a week ago I started noticing that the ramp pressure used to rise as I went to sleep and reached 15/12, at that point I woke up and could feel leaks around the mask.

After I woke up and took off the mask it should have reduced the pressure down, but it maintained 15 and then after mask alert beeps switched the machine off. Is this something to concern about or is it normal? This has happened a couple of times since then and I have started to believe that the machine is not working properly. Has anyone experienced the same?

Thanks
Raj.

If I am not mistaken, the Ramp button needs to be pressed for it to function. Ramp is NOT an automatic function. People tend to stop using Ramp after the getting used to having the pressure to breath with. Note: if the Ramp pressure is too low - you can feel like you can't get enuff air.

You need to adjust your mask at the highest pressure it will be used at as more force is put on the straps when the pressure increases. This is why the mask begins to leaks at higher pressures - usually after you fall asleep. Do this well before bedtime so you are not so tired.
