?? easier way to hook up hose to mask?

Post by Junebug999 » Sun Oct 03, 2010 8:04 pm

Hi budddies, I'm using a quattro mask, and I like to put mask on and then connect hose. That rubbery end on the hose is really AWKward to push onto the connect end of the mask....is there a trick or something I can get to make this easier?

Also, while we're at it...are there different TYPES of hoses? The hose I have is not very flexible...It is like you know how old phone cords get sort of wound up weird? My hose is like that, is it possible to get different types or better hoses?

And, will any hose hook up to a DeVilbiss Intellipap, and my Quattro mask? Are those universal type fittings?

I am so glad that I am not the only one with that problem. The last hose the DME gave me is so hard to hook to my mask.

The hose I had before that is easier, though, so maybe you can still get the easier kind? I have no idea, but I will stalk this thread to see if anyone knows.

My RespCare mask comes with a short (few inches) swivel coupler that goes between the mask elbow (also swivels) and the hose. If I didn't have the swiveling coupler, I'd buy one https://www.cpap.com/productpage/hose-c ... -cpap.html. Very nice gadget.

The dme has sold you a $5 hose for what $25-$30? Cheap quality hoses are hard and have twists and turns that don't unwind and lay flat very easy, but they made a nice profit off you. You will need to buy an upper-end hose on-line to have one that is not so hard. When you first got your machine, it came with the quality hose that came with your machine, but was most likely sold to you separately. Most dme providers operate this way, I cannot understand why insurance companies consider on-line suppliers to be out-of-network when they sell for so much cheaper. Any unit I have researched comes with a hose for no extra charge. Chech your mask receipt and make sure they didn't bill for mask, headgear, hose assy. as separate pieces.....some will sell 1 factory sealed bag as 2 or 3 separate items to maximize profits. Keep reading and learning how to be successful with your therapy. Good luck! jlk

Reading the description, I think that the product you cite is a swivel, but not a quick disconnedt. It can be used with this quick disconnect to get both features:

Either one can be used separately, too.

My DME charged me for the headgear and the mask for my Swift FX for Her. It was in the manufactures sealed package that include the entire mask system. However the charges are correct and totaled together they still were significantly less than I would pay if purchasing from an online retailer. Of course I am using an in network DME. So if your DME charged you for 2 or 3 part of the mask system, check over the charges first before assuming they're charging you for the same thing multiple times.

You asked if the hoses are universal. I believe they are with the exception of the ResMed Slimline hose and some climate (heated) hoses.

Junebug,

Yes, there is a trick. The trick is to give the folks at cpap.com a call in the morning, and ask them which hose it is that is lightweight and flexible. Then order a few so you have one you can use now, one for the future, and one as a spare. I know that I ordered a few from them that are really good, and I got one when I bought my new machine that was about twice as heavy, hard to connect, and the bends from shipping were permanent.

The Quattro has a quick-connect built into it. It's the piece you connect the hose to. Just leave the hose connected to it and pull it off from the rest of the mask.

As for the hose, I really like the Respironics white 'Performance' hose. It's very flexible.

The 'easier' way (that nurses use for any such connection) is to wet/lick the hard plastic end, then the rubber will slide right on!

I use the quick connect from cpap.com. It works very well!! Just pop the hose on the mask and it stays! Easy disconnect too.

I also use the Respironics Performance hose. It is very light and flexible and will work with most any machine and mask.

These 2 items make using cpap so much easier!!!

This is the one we've always used, very lightweight and flexible but sturdy. The regular hose was too heavy and pulled on the mask. Hope this helps.

Now, If I bought a Respironics Performance hose, would I change my setup on my S9 Elite to 'standard' instead of 'slimline'?
How does the flexibility compare?
