Can I use this mask?

Post by Quilter2 » Sun Sep 26, 2010 12:17 pm

Hi, and thanks forwarded to all respondents.

CSA+ Adapt SV+ 12 setting (Dr. really wants 15)+ HUGE mouth breather. I can tape sucessfully. Cheeks puff out it's the oddest thing.

Have tried SO many styles and types of masks. All failures for variety of reasons. No single chin strap of the 7 I have works. Only wearing 2 at a time-which wreaks havoc w/ mask fitting and seal. Swift LT is my most beloved-but using this gives me a headache. Respironics huge and heavy massive over the face is next, but so noisy, with its many built in problems w/ my structure. Many, many self-made adaptations-never being able to bear this one- longer than 3 hours. All have been tried from practically sitting up to various pillow combinations to no pillows. Yup, I have a cpap pillow too.

I know my machine wants the use of a certain set and/ or style of mask within / among the many companies. Oral F+P is too huge sore throat for me.

Headrest Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask + AEIO company seems perfect. Plus, the use of double chin straps if that is how it's got to be. Or tape.

Or some variation yet to be supplied by yourselves?

Dying to use my equipment properly (the bi-level and breathe by breathe property) like Dr. wants. Willing to go back to regular CPAP or use both my machines at once.

Hi Quilter
Why would you use 2 chin straps, this not supposed to be a torture therapy. Chin straps are a waste of money anyway. They usually do not work. If you use a full face mask, it does not matter if you breath through your mouth, that is what they are for. If your swift LT is giving you a headache, you have it way too tight. None of the masks should be so tight that they hurt. A swift needs to be loose, so that you can easily put two fingers between the straps and your face .
I hope I have answered a couple of your questions, I think you need to read, read and read some more on this site, you will find most of us have gone through some trying times with this set up and usually get things fixed one at time. Try one fix and when that works go to the next, it will take time and patience. The wait is well worth it, with more restfull sleep and much more energy on your part.
Good luck, hopefully some one else will answer the rest of your questions....in the meantime ...read.

for headache, reposition the headgear straps and loosen them so mask is only just tight enough, you need a humidifier if mouthbreathing with a full face mask
australian, anxiety and insomnia, a CPAP user since 1995, self diagnosed after years of fatigue, 2 cheap CPAPs and respironics comfortgell nose only mask. not one of my many doctors ever asked me if I snored

Have you tried PAPcap chinstrap? Some forum members find that it works when others do not. Unlike most other chinstraps, it is not stretchy.

You can see both versions here: https://www.cpap.com/productSearch.php?query=papcap

If you've got the Resmed Adapt SV... you might not be able to use just any mask. I remember reading about learning circuits on the Resmed Adapt SV machine which didn't allow for masks other than the ones listed.

cflame,
"If you've got the Resmed Adapt SV... you might not be able to use just any mask. I remember reading about learning circuits on the Resmed Adapt SV machine which didn't allow for masks other than the ones listed"
True, and not so true. ResMed likes their own product line. Learn circuit w/ machine set on FFM of your choice.

jdm2857,
Have you tried PAPcap chinstrap?
Yes, altered the one I bought to be just like the PAPcap Plus. Still, the lip fluttering +cheek puffing.

harry33,
"for headache, reposition the headgear straps and loosen them so mask is only just tight enough, you need a humidifier if mouthbreathing with a full face mask"
Headgear straps are loose. Have a humidifier. Use on 6. Rarely rainout. Usually about 2 TBS H2o left .Too much mouthleak and poor mask fit . My chin pops open the F+P forma joint (where silicone fits into track). Often, I find, I startle awake with my lower teeth out from under the entire FFM - happens w/ various other FFM as well. Vertical fit dimension is good -prior to my "real sleeping".
nanwilson,
"Why would you use 2 chin straps".....because it was the only way I found that actually did hold my chin up and lips together. It is, as you say ,torture.
"If your swift LT is giving you a headache, you have it way too tight"......I LOVE my SWIFT as written..."Swift LT is my most beloved." But this is not a validated device for my machine according to the compaibility chart by Res Med. Please read more on my update.
"I think you need to read, read and read some more on this site"....13 days of reading all day, every day. Great advice -I will post an update today.

A tremendous thanks to all of you. I hope you get these
