Home Titration?

I got a call from the DME today to come trade in my CPAP for a BiPAP. They are leaving the pressure settings wide open until I see my sleep doctor in mid-October. Is this something that is done, or am I being taken for a ride? Meanwhile, when the RT called to ask when I could come in, she made the mistake of saying the other RT was up in the storage room looking for a used PAP for me to try (still debate over whether I should be on ASV). When I picked up the PAP, I reminded her of the promise she made that if I end up keeping the machine she'd get me a new one when the rental period is up. She said, "Oh, this IS a new machine". Oh yeah, then show me the box it came in - I watched her take my CPAP from a cardboard box so I know that's how they're packed. "It went out in the trash already". So that will be a fun argument in three months.

I believe that the strategy you mention providing you are using a BiPAP Auto. Since you mention "wide open", I presume that is the case.

And go into the clinical menu and take a look at the number of hours the machine has been used. You can use that to prove the "newness" of the machine.

I don't know about Respironics machines, but I don't believe it is possible on RedMed machines to total hours used data. Make sure you know how to get to the hours used display. Make her show that to you. Make sure you are not looking at compliance data, which can be used. I don't have the wording handy, so familiarize yourself with the details before you pick it up.
