Now that I have been on CPAP for 3 months, it has begun to part of my sleep routine (along with my bite guard and iPod). I am somewhat concerned that I will actually have problem sleeping without my trusty machine if it should break (I know that might sound wacky - but I know I have trouble sleeping if I forget my bite guard on a trip).
Anyway - do many of you keep a spare machine (I assume insurance would not pay)? Is there a cheap basic machine that anyone recommends?
Thanks!

Spare machine!
I HAVE THE REMSTAR AUTO AS MY MAIN MACHINE AND ALSO HAVE A PURITAN-BENNET 420G FOR TRAVEL AND ALSO FOR A BACK-UP. THE PB IS A VERY SMALL, QUIET, EXCELLENT CPAP MACHINE ALTHOUGH IT IS A FIXED PRESSURE UNIT. I HAVE HAD IT A COUPLE OF YEARS NOW AND IT CAN BE BOUGHT AT CPAP.COM FOR APROX. $297 I BELIEVE. THERE ARE PROBABLY OTHER GOOD ONES OUT THERE BUT FOR SOMEONE WHO TRAVELS IT IS A GREAT MACHINE FOR THE PRICE AND IT IS A GREAT BACK-UP ALSO. I ALSO KEPT AN OLDER RES-MED SULLIVAN CPAP BUT I SENT IT TO THE CHARITY WHO WAS HELPING THE THE PEOPLE WHO NEEDED UNITS TO REPLACE THE ONES THEY LOST IN THE STORM AND FLOODS ETC.
HOPE THIS HELPS JERE!

spare
My paranoia was responsible for getting a backup cpap.
Then my dv 9001d died and i bought another and now I am getting an apap and will have 2 spares.
One was a pb 318- unused except for a few nights waiting on my remstar + and used to cool my computer processor when my fan dies.
Don't know what I will do with my pb 318- don't need it anymore.
paid 145.00 for it - want one?

Jere, I am kinda like you. I sleep so well with my machine, I dread the idea of being without it should something happen.
I also would like a smaller unit for travel (I use a Spirit.) Have been seriously thinking about getting the new auto 8 version. That way the same software should work for both of them.

I was in a cpap fog until I came here to learn!

Do you NEED one? I dunno - but I can relate to not only feeling like I need the CPAP, but being concerned about possibly sleeping without it. So I have a spare coming, which also will be my travel machine. Now I just have to figure out the battery situation for those blizzard conditions and power outages we can get here....
