Emotions Coming Alive on CPAP?

I've been on the hose now for 8 nights and am feeling better. Has anyone else noticed, on emerging from the fog of sleep deprivation, that their emotions are, how shall I put it, more sensitive?

Oh, yes. Once the fog begins to lift many feelings start bubbling up. This can be good or bad, depending. I find I'm generally much more delighted with life than I was pre-cpap. But when I get angry or upset it is MUCH more intense and longer-lasting than before. I guess I just didn't have the energy to sustain those ill feelings, and it feels odd to feel both happier and chronically annoyed at the same time. That doesn't even sound possible, does it? It's certainly true for me, though!

Hope and interest in life! That was the first thing.

But I am less easily annoyed (as long as I get fed on time).

I may be one of those people with a very sensitive sense of taste to begin with, but it seems that my taste buds are becoming a little bit more alive as I emerge from the fog after 8 nights of CPAP. For example, my wife made a capresi (sp?) salad with cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, artisanal California olive oil, and simple salt and pepper. After I tossed it with a fork, I licked the fork -- what a flavor explosion! Something is definitely going on with my sense of taste.

Yes things taste better. I attributed it to the fact that my mouth and tongue isn't a dried out sponge in the morning anymore and my nasal passages are more clear but it could also be that my brain is functioning again. There are all sorts of subtle changes that happen when you get enough oxygen.

The whole emotional thing took me totally by surprise - I hadn't realized how grey life had gotten - I was living at subsistence level. Lots of amazing possibilities opened up once I was on cpap and could take my eyes off the ground.

Yes, I noticed more sensitivity at BOTH ends of the spectrum...much like brazopearl described above. I see that as a GOOD thing...I'm living LIFE, no longer in a fog!!

It's easy to see how some of the topics here devolve into petty bickering (yes, I'm as guilty as anyone!). Half of us have re-found passion...and the other half are sleep-deprived! Pretty explosive mix, no?
