Goodbye to CPAP

Post by Kenv » Sun Nov 06, 2005 4:17 pm

HI I'm new here - I just wanted to tell you folks that I have been on a CPAP machine for over 3 years. Three weeks ago I started using the AveoTSD (tongue stablising device). This is a simple nylon device which holds the tongue from slipping back when you go to sleep. The tongue slipping back and blocking the airway is the most common reason for Sleep Apnea. I haven't used the CPAP machine since and I feel better than I did when using the machine. I doubt if I will ever use the CPAP again.
Try one!
Ken

You were really on CPAP for 3 years?? How did you find out about this device??

I've never even heard of it, although I have seen other various devices out there. But mostly in the modified boil-and-bite mouthguard category.

I even tried one called, Somnoguard, and found that I did feel somewhat better the next day although my jaw got sore and it was difficult to get used to. Of course CPAP is no walk in the park, either, to say the least.

No offense, but I'm not sure I'd like my tongue being pulled out of my mouth all night.

Do you live in Auckland?

Nice try.

Happy

Post by sleepyred » Sun Nov 06, 2005 6:55 pm

Hey, I'm just so happy that I am sleeping and my cpap is doing such a great job, I could cry! My husband is sleeping better. I am not grumpy during the day anymore! My kids are happy!

I even made it through a cold - thanks to you all who said the cpap actually made your colds better quicker - you were right! My nose never stopped up and the warm humidifier helped so very much!

I'll keep my cpap, thank you!

OK, so the guy is fishing...
But I thought it was one of the more entertaining potentially bogus product sites I have run into in quite awhile.

Oddly you need a a prescription for this $150 universal fitting miracle that is ALMOST in Clinical Trials. But I bet if you contacted them, they would make an exception JUST for YOU. I am pretty sure I would have a hard time getting this through MY sleep doc.

Now what is REALLY entertaining is to ponder the side effects of having suction on the end of your tongue all night every night. Might be har to tal'k afta awhaaal. Still trying to figure it if it would help or hurt you love life in the long run.

I wonder if the same device is sold under one of the other spam claims in my mailbox about enlargement?

for anyone that doesn't want to search:
http://aveosleep.com/index.php

Note no street address or phone number on the site, just an e-mail address and mention of New Zealand. Remember your rules for safe internet commerce....

Hmmm. They're in Australia, they say the device is FDA approved (??). If by FDA they mean the US FDA, then I wonder why I couldn't find it in the FDA database? ONLY $150? I think I like my Swift even more now!

I'm another guy who's been on CPAP for a number of years (8 to be exact) who now uses the aveoTSD. No Lie. It works amazing for OSA. I agree with Ken, I feel better after a sleep with this tongue stabilizing device than I ever did with CPAP.

The aveoTSD has gone through over 8 years of clinical research, created by a dentist in New Zealand, his dad died from sleep apnea. He was determined to do something for those who snore and suffer from OSA. Search it out for yourself.

Snork used one of those rubber tongue pullers, he used it longer than anyone I know of has, got to hand it to him there.

And that is the problem, no one sticks with it but a few weeks tops, then their $150 is down the drain.

I think that pdiddydidideradoodoo horn thingee from down under will work, if not you can use it to pole vault with. There appears to be another model the Norwegians use on the Ricola commercial would work just as well.

I've been on BiPap for more than a year. I'm not a spammer.

I have noticed that I breathe better lying down when I stick my tongue out. Is there a cheap version of this tongue product? Is it adviseable to use this in combination with a nasal mask?

I also breathe better lying down when I have my hands raised/behind my head my head. Any connection there?

PS. I'm reigstered but every other post of mine comes out as "guest"

I'm the guest who posted above dreamstalker.

I finally figured out my new laptop. It somehow doesn't log in properly. That is why a few of my post came out as a guest.

I guess there is a consensus on this board that only cpap/bipap works? It has worked for me for a year now. I was just wondering LEGITIMATELY, why sticking my tongue out when lying down somehow makes me breathe easier. Does that mean I'm a candidate for surgery?

Dreamstalker, what were you experiences with any other devices outside of Xpap. It seems you don't believe in them. I haven't tried anything else outside of bipap because I got lucky and somebody practically donated to me my bipap machine. I would love the insight.

I ask because I travel a lot, unexpectedly sometimes. I find it hard to travel with my machine. If I can find a short time substitute for the times I suddenly have to stay unexpectedly overnight somewhere it would be terrific.
