Sleep aids. RX + OTC

Post by airhead » Mon Dec 20, 2004 1:58 am

I used to feel guilty taking a pill to help me sleep. But now, after reading my sleep study, I see how and when the apneas slowed down, and my sleep got "good"......SO In my opinion, if you need a pill for a while, take the pill. Its not a sin. Good Luck
feeling stronger everyday...."Chicago"

I'm intrigued by your comment that your apnea improved by taking sleeping pills.

My sleep doc indicated that sleeping aids worsen apnea because they are respiratory depressants which slow down breathing even more.

Her comments make sense since I noticed that even though I may have perceived having had a better sleep with a pill, I did feel worse in the morning (excluding any residual med hangover).

OTC meds (such as the antihistimine type can also cause/worsen RLS)

Could you be more specific as to what pills you are referring to.

Hello

There so many diffrent sleeping tablets.....I am currently treated for RLS by a medication called Madopar[anti parkingson's med] I been DX with Sleep apeona and Restless leg Sydrome.

I have found out how disrupting RLS is at night, I been medicated for a few years on this med. I happen to experince when I take it with my other meds[ as I am a cocktail of meds] it knocks my socks off at night with other stuff incuded. But I sleep like a baby.

So what is the stuff that you are on called?
Been on CPAP for a while.....I had moderate apenoa
