Swift airflow question

Post by wpinef » Sun Nov 06, 2005 8:17 am

Hi
Just a question on the exhaust flow coming from the mask I tried Looking for it with search but did not find anything. How do you reduce the gale force winds (11 cm/h2o) that come out of the mask?? I am getting along fine with the mask (last night was night #4) and slept 10 hours with it on straight but I am blowing the rest of the room away.

Thanks
Dave

Dave:
There have been some "lab-ratting" fixes suggested but IMO don't do much to help the exhaust! My pressure is 18 cm H2O and the exhaust air is perportionate to the pressure. In 11 years i have used many, many interfaces and the SWIFT has proven to be the very best for me an i don't even care about the exhaust, i just don't sleep on my right side so as not to bother my wife and this is the side i place the tube back over my head. If you are getting along OK with the SWIFT i would just run with this excellent mask and not worry too much about the exhaust, you will get use to it and IMO after a while you won't even notice it!

Welcome and hope this helps!

Yeah, yeah, what he said...Steve gave you the right answer, IMHO. You shouldn't worry about exhaust if the rest of the interface and you are getting along. It is so hard to find the right mask to use that you can tolerate and that gives you a great night's sleep and great treatment, let alone to worry about the exhaust port.

HOWEVER...some folks have tried putting a very small netting in the barrel, tulle, I believe it's called, to try to stifle some of the noise the Swift gives off. But if it's not the exhaust noise that is bothering you, there is nothing you are going to be able to do about the pressure of air that comes out of the exhaust. Like Steve said, it's proportionate to your treatment pressure. Short of having an auto option on your machine and using it, you are stuck with the exhaust as it is. You have to make the determination if the benefits of this interface outweigh the negatives. I had found that they do with the Swift. Great interface.
