CPAP Titration

Post by deedster » Sat Nov 05, 2005 6:24 pm

I had my CPAP titration last night and it wasn't too bad. I had been reading all the posts on several boards and watched videos online to become an informed consumer. I was Intellictually prepared, but what surprised me was that I wasn't totally Emotionally prepared. I had a moment when reality set in when trying on the mask and thought, "What have I gotten myself in for?" This passed quickly when I found that it wasn't too hard to breathe after a few minutes.

I liked the fact that my sleep lab could adjust the pressure remotely without having to come into the room. I slept really deeply a few times and woke up a few times, but overall it was much better than the original study. The only thing was that I woke up with a headache. I attributed that to my sinuses. Also, a couple of times during the night I had some chest pressure/pain. The tech said this was probably when she upped the pressure.

I think I will do even better in my own bed without all the wires. I have felt good today once I got rid of the headache. Not tired like I was the last time.

This might not be too bad after all!

deedster,

Sounds like you're an optimist and that is good. Keep up the positive attitude. You'll have half the battle won. The other half is finding and getting used to wearing the right mask. There are a few other little things along the way, but having the right attitude, which it seems you have, is a beautiful thing.

Good luck. Let us all know how you do. Oh, by the way, welcome to the site.

I can perhaps be encouraging. I had virtually the same experience with the sleep study, having a split study which was nice, doing the test and titration in one night. Then after some wait I got my machine, one with cflex, and nasal pillow type mask. I have been using it for maybe 2 weeks, and have had few problems. I like the way I feel during the day, more alert, less dumb-headed. I fall asleep quickly at night with the mask on, and although I do wake up sometimes with a burning sensation in the nostrils, it passes quickly when I remove the mask. Then I reapply and I am back to sleep. I have upped the humidity temp one notch to try to cure the burning. May try one more.

The entire thing has been much less hastle than I anticipated.
