OT touching the human spirit

Post by carbonman » Sun Aug 29, 2010 8:35 pm

random thoughts:

Never has it been so correct to make fun of, have fun with
and be totally unPC about something so serious.

Made friends w/a bunch of people that I will never know their names,
where they came from, where they will go or why they were there.
But, to say good bye and get a hug, made me cry like a baby.

The F-Bomb gals
The Titty-Titty-Bang-Bangs-pack'n heat and dangerous
The Pink Hat gals
SuperWoman
Dave and Dave's Mom
The Lunch Lady from MA
Save the Ta-Ta's
Honk'n for Hooters

How do you explain the gut wrenching pain of someone,
who has given, w/every fiber of their being,
then has to admit that they can't go on.
There are not words that can ease that pain.
You do what you can to let them know that they have done their best
and that is all anyone can ask.....and get them on a medical van.
I got to see and feel commitment, dedication and perseverance,
in it's most raw form.

I got to experience the world the way we wish it was everyday....
your purpose for the day to help someone and check to see that they are ok,
and everyone around me doing the same for me.

We logged 126 miles for the 3days.
62 of those miles on Sat. on the bike paths where there was
no vehicle access. A lot of back and forth. Unforgiving heat.
I have done hard bike rides but I have never been tired
like the tired I was Fri. night.

Fri. am. Opening ceremony.

Bike crew....ready to rock and roll.

Everybody is in this fight.

Sat. am. Do'n what it takes to keep going.

Motorcycle crew at intersection control.

Walker camp for Fri/Sat night.
Your tent is the pink one.
Image
Sat. am. On the road. It was a brutal hot day.
Image
These amazing ladies, the Texas Cow Bells, saved us Fri. pm. We were stuck at an intersection
doing control for 3hrs. They came by w/cookies, just when we needed them.
They can't do the walk, but they drive support for any walker or crew that needs something.
Image
The Pink Boob Fairy out on the road.
Image
I have what will be a cherished rememberance of this weekend. My badge.
I gathered the stickers along the way. Each one has a story and
a special person associated w/it. Very special.
Image
For my wonderful supporters, I took you and your reasons w/me.
I thought about you, your loved ones, the victories and the memories.
Image
...and from opening ceremony, I took these thoughts w/me.
and will try and take these thoughts w/me into my life.

I did, in fact, touch the human spirit, in it's most pure form
.....and it is alive and very well.
To my supporters, together, we do make a difference.

At the close, I signed up for next year.
"If your therapy is improving your health but you're not doing anything
to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

That you, carbonman for the special touch of human spirit you bring us in all your posts -- and special thanks for this one -- both for the deed and for the sharing.

Thank you for riding with my name on your bike. This is the first time anyone has done this for me.
You touched my heart and spirit. It means so much to me.

I was saving looking at this thread till I had some time to browse what I knew would be pics, but had no idea they were of this event. I am deeply moved. Like so many others, I've lost someone close to this disease. But thankfully, I know several others who are survivors. May the funds raised by groups like the one in these photos continue to make advances in conquering this enemy. Thank you, Carbonman.
