Return policy on Machine?

Post by SleepyRae » Fri Aug 27, 2010 1:13 pm

I have seen many posts about the 30 return on the masks, but what about the machine? I was extremely uneducated on this stuff when I went into the DME, and the tech was just like 'here is your machine' It's a Phillips Remstar, and its 'ok' but I am frustrated by the lack of information I can get from it (read: none) about my therapy. Now equipped with loads of research, we are set to go back to the DME to get my husband set up with his machine. We are going to try to get something different for him, but he wants to try to get my machine changed too. It's been 2 weeks since I got mine. Anyone know what the odds are of me being able to get a better machine? If the DME will not exchange it, am I totally stuck with it until the rental is over? If I do want another one, will I have to pay out of pocket? I hate this DME stuff

Actually, you have a very good machine. I use the same one.

If you are looking for the detailed data to monitor your therapy, you will need to purchase the Encore Viewer software for $99. I got mine from cpap.com. My laptop just happens to be pretty new and has a smartcard reader built in. I pop the card into the laptop, do the download, and can get a detailed report whenever I want.

I was under the impression that my particular machine did not record any data other than the compliance data. I think the machine I have listed in my profile may be a newer model than the one I was given. I couldn't find anything that looked exactly like my machine; and I also found very little information in the way of model number on the machine itself. Is there some way to know for sure if it IS recording the data, before I spend the money on the viewer?

I had that machine, its a good one..

However I returned it and traded it on a resmed autoset s 9

It HAS to be within the thirty day period..

I returned mine because I did not like the pressure pulse feature, which blows a puff of air at you within thirteen seconds
after an exhale..
this machine is NOT appropriate for shallow breathers..

that function cant be shut down.. If you complain about this, they are going to have to trade you another machine
but you should be sure, its not a worse machine! You should only trade if you know you can trade for what you want.

On the pr system one auto AFLEX..

the screen is hard to read too, and it only gives weekly averages.. but if you download the info that is a different story..
if you cant trade it, get the software to download your data..

okay, sorry, I thought you had machine in your profile icon...

so, everything I wrote, it goes only if you have the pr system one auto with Aflex..

I know that machine has a pressure pulse feature..

I dont know about the one you have, but if you dont like it, take it back now with a print out of what you want,
and insist that they exhange it.. have reasons why you dont want that machine, and reason why you want
a new machine.. you should get what you want..

If your machine is a Plus, it only provides compliance data. The Pro supplies full efficacy data, but is a straight CPAP. And the Auto is an APAP with full data.

If you have a Plus, you should most definitely get it upgraded. The Pro is the minimum you should accept. If you want to try for an Auto (it can help you solve problems with your therapy in the future) go for it, but you may have more difficulty.

Look on the top of your PAP device. The model name should be there.

at the DME right now. got a bit of run around. she said I need Docs orders to get any other machine, and that there are NO machines that offer leak, AHI, etc info to end users. I pretty much feel done with this DME, but what do I do now? am I stuck in this rental?

What machine DO you have? Until we know for sure WHICH machine you have we can't tell if you have a data capable machine.

It should be written on the machine, look at the bottom and on the top.

I would walk out of there right now. They are nothing but a bunch of scam artists it would appear to me. Get educated and get a machine that suits YOU. One with loads of data. And get an oximeter (recording with software) so you can monitor your blood oxygen saturation as well. Geez. CPAP is not just about blowing air into your face guys. The docs seem to be in this for the big bucks and it ticks me off something fierce.

GET OUT OF THERE!

my machine says 'remstar' that's really about it. I looked on all sides, the bottom, the user manual (meaning the photocopy of a user manual) the humidifier says 'system one' how can I find the exact model?

Mine says "Remstar Auto Aflex" on the machine right above the screen and "System One" on the humidifier.

What does yours say above the screen?

Above the LCD screen, right after "REMstar" the model name should appear. If for some reason it isn't there, look at the bottom for a model number that starts with "DS". The Auto is the DS450, the Pro is the DS350, and the Plus is the DS250.

And if your DME has put any stickers on the machine, you may have to look under them.

LOL Photo copy manual and stickers.....

Please find another DME.

Seriously....

Its your health, and your money or control of it thru insurance.

If they are not making you happy.

Complain, and if they can not make it right.

Let your insurance know about the problem too....

Find another place to spend your money.

Good Luck.
