Short term Success, medium term...Struggling...

Post by geoffc » Tue Aug 24, 2010 10:58 am

Greetings,

I've been on VPAP therapy for about 7 weeks, and at first, things went really well, but the last 5 days have been miserable!!!

I've lost about 10 lbs, and my BP is down, but I've slept in the last 5 days!

All of a sudden my mast is leaking and waking me up blowing in my eyes, or making noises (I had no significant leaks for the first 30 days), or as the pressure in the mask changes, it is shifting and rubbing me raw, my hose seems to be pulling on my mask (No changes here, I have a hook on the headboard to hold it able my head) My AHI reported by the machine is less than 10 most nights (it was 15-20 my first couple weeks).

Could the mask be 'damaged' in some way? Is it the 10 lbs I've lost just changing the fit of my mask and causing me trouble?

Any suggestions?

Sleepless in Atlanta,

Geoff

Hi Geoff,
Sounds like you've been having a time of it. I vote that it's the weight loss. You lose weight in your face. Be sure to fill in your equipment and mask etc under the use control panel. It's on the upper left side. I'm sure some of the other more experienced posters will be along to help. Welcome to the forum. Pull up a chair and stay awhile.

Im just trying a vpap now, hope I lose ten pounds too!

oh, I think that ten pounds can sure change the contours of your face, you might need a new mask fitting.

The only time that happened to me is when I took apart the headgear straps to clean them, and it took
me days to find the sweet spot again.

Could be the weightloss affecting the fit of you mask. Try refitting, pay attention to the hose again as well.

Also, some masks loose their sealability if you don't wash them carefully -- I mentioned on another thread that I found the Dr. Bonner's liquid soap -- used daily -- improves the seal of my masks tremendously. I put a few drops on my we hand, create foam rub the mask seal with the foam, and rinse thoroughly.

Thanks for the encouragement, I've sent a similar e-mail to my initial post to my Resp Therapist at my DME, but she is out of town (Vacation message), So I'm not sure if I will get anywhere for a few more days.

I Have my equipment in my Profile, not sure if it's not displaying for some reason, so here is my equipment:

Resmed VPAP Auto SV
Mirage Micro Mask
I2 humidifier
