Re: Vicks vapor Run In front of Air Intake for congestion relief
THANKS I JUST WROTE THIS FOR AN ANCIENT POST.... Will teach me to look at those dates next time! Ughhhh.
The thing is that Vicks needs to be warmed (on your chest....) in order to really work well. On a cold filter, it would kind of just sit there, and more worrisome, aerosolize and coat the inside of the duct, fan, etc. So I would recommend, ughhh, smearing the Vicks under your nose, before masking up. It should not hurt the mask, but may take some strong detergent to get any off the plastic. I think there may be a new 'liquid' version of Vicks that is meant to go in heated ROOM (not cpap) humidifiers, and perhaps that liquid version could safely go on a cloth placed behind a cpap intake filter. I would be afraid to put it inside the cpap humidifier, however. Someone should invent a version for cpaps.....

Actually HL there is a form for cpaps... check out pur-sleep.com and click of the "clear" bottle. mmmmmm You just put a drop or two on the little disc and place it behind the air intake. My bottle is empty, so I have been just putting the bottle with the lid off behind the air intake... still gives me that mmmmmmm feeling.hyperlexis wrote:THANKS I JUST WROTE THIS FOR AN ANCIENT POST.... From a health standpoint one has to wonder what the oils and foreign chemicals do to one's lungs when there is an alternative that is so easy to use. That is simply to get a heated humidifier and heated hose and crank them up as high as you can stand it; As one with chronic lung issues who has been through weeks of life support, intubation and mechanical suctioning of the lungs, I hesitate to introduce foreign substance(s) into my lungs any longer although for many it will be safe. The phlegm being coughed up, by the way, may actually be phlegm caused by the oily residue in the bronchii left by the Vaporub. The warm humid air is a far better bet in clearing up congestion in the lungs and sinus. For me it works like a charm and in fact, it is the only time I use the humidifier. (e.g. when I have chest and sinus congestions). I generally do not even travel with the humidifier or heated hoses. Full face mask is a good idea as well when congestion sets in so that you can continue to get therapy while your nose is blocked via mouth breathing.

Well you are not really inhaling the vaseline base of the rub, just the 'vapors' from the pungent eucalyptus and camphor mixed in. People used to use home remedies from garlic and whatnot, ughhhh. Whether Vicks 'works' or not is another story.
