Hi. I am new here. I am trying to find a website to help me understand my sleep study report. I do not see my dr for 2 weeks and have to go have a second between now and then. The report is 3 pages long, so I am not certain which info you would need to tell me anything so I will try my best.
I had 185 Obstructive Apneas with the longest lasting 29.3 seconds; 251 Hypopnea events with the longest lasting 49.3 seconds; 1 central apnea that was 19.7 seconds.
EEG Associations:
Respiratory Events 158
Spontaneous 206
60 limb movements.
Sooo, they say I have severe obstructive sleep apnea. My father has it too, however I am a 33 your old woman. I guess I am shock that I have this at my age?
any thoughts or suggestions.

Re: report
Hi, nothing to do with age - in fact now that more people are aware of it and have educated themselves, they realize they may have had it forever (like me), but it just hadn't 'shown' itself because young people being otherwise healthy and active don't think anything's wrong with sleeping half the time! You can post your summary page here to give us more info to help you with.

Re: report
Three pages is not long, go ahead and post it.
Your age means you will feel better younger.

Re: report
I was diagnosed at age 29, wish it had been even earlier, but I'm glad it wasn't later! Age is not the problem (nor gender), facial and jaw structures, neck size, tongue size... those are the real culprits. I'm sure my dad had OSA too. My AHI untreated was 35 , also in the severe category.

I don't pretend to know what this means medically. However, here is a bit of a preview. Adding 185 OA events and 251 H events, and guessing that you were sleeping about 7 hours, that is around 65 events per hour. That means that you stopped breathing just over once per minute throughout the night. Eeeeek. That is pretty bad. Your blood oxygen number would be interesting to see. This is certainly in the severe range, but not in the extreme range. Several people here, myself included, had over 100 events per hour.
The next step is to see if you are treatable with CPAP, or some variant of CPAP like APAP, BiPAP. In my case, CPAP didn't work at all for me, APAP wasn't strong enough, but BiPAP worked so long as I wasn't on my back. That is good because the BiPAP works pretty well for me, and I don't mind dealing with the machine.
The 60 limb movements can also be important. Your doctor might want to treat you for that. It is possible that the limb movements contribute to waking you up and causing you to get poor sleep.
OSA can have some bad long term health effects, such as heart damage and brain damage, plus it can cause weight gain. The key thing to take away is that whatever treatment your doctor comes up with, you are going to want to follow it to the letter, and be happy that it was caught so early in your life before the damage accumulated.

Re: report
Thank you all for your informative and quick responses. I will post the report this evening. I'll have to scan it at work.
My dad has it too, so I am a little familiar with the
Condition. Knowledge is power, so I feel the need to learn all I can. I also have fibromyalgia. In terms of pain control, regarlar sleep is vital!!!
Thank you again!!
