what do you think? Resmed or Respironics?
what do you think? Resmed or Respironics?
I called my DME and said I didn't want the S8 Escape II because its not a data-capable machine. I said I wanted a Resmed S8 or S9 Elite They can't get a S9 without special permission. I can get a S8 but they have to order it. They are offering me a Respironics -- she said its the one they give patients when the doctor orders a data capable machine. Now she mentioned several things about the model-- Remstar Pro; c-flex plus and a model DS450. I can't find anything online about a DS450 including on the Respironics web site. I know I need to call her tomorrow and get the exact model. Is anyone familiar with this brand? I suspect Remstar Pro is the model. Should I take the Respironics or hold out for an S8 Elite. What about the cost of the software and reader?
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I called the DME. I expected an argument. It has been two months since I got the S8 Escape. No complaints with it, but I had my sleep study done 2 years ago and know I need to make an appt with the doctor. I don't want to get another sleep study done and it sounds like the data-capable machine will allow the doctor to adjust my settings without having to go through the full blown study.

Check the one in my profile, I think it is the same as the one they are suggesting except mine is BiPAP.

That is correct, I hear its a very good machine. I personally would still go for the S9 autoset as the software is more user friendly and very detailed.Mask2sleep wrote:Check the one in my profile, I think it is the same as the one they are suggesting except mine is BiPAP.

Re: what do you think? Resmed or Respironics?
s9 is not an option.
Re: what do you think? Resmed or Respironics?
I read up on both of them since posting. sounds like the Remstar Pro is noisier - 29 db vs 24 for the Resmed S8 Elite. Sounds like neither software works with Windows 7 at this time. Doctor offices are more likely to be setup for Respironics.
Re: what do you think? Resmed or Respironics?
you shouldn't have trouble with the Respironics (PR or Phillips Respironics)... appears that they're offering you the latest Respironics (but not the latest Resmed). So with those choices I'd take the Respironics.
Take it, get the software (which does work with 32 bit Windows software)... and just go for it.

Re: what do you think? Resmed or Respironics?
I have the PR S1 auto, I think the DS450 is CPAP (just be absolutely certain it's the PRO, not the Plus which has no data). I didn't have a choice of machines (HMO) but it's a darn good machine.
It's really, truly quiet. I'm not sure what the difference of 4 decibels is, but I cannot hear the machine itself even when I listen for it. I do get a lot of conducted noise in my masks that have short hoses like the Swift LT and FX, but that's the mask, not the machine (Resmed claims to reduce the conducted noise, but I've heard Resmed users complain with these masks too). Using a hose huggie on the short hose dampens the conducted noise and I'm trying out a nasal pillow cover from Padacheek that seems to do even more in that regard.
Some people complain of a high-pitched beep with the PR S1. I've actually heard it once or twice with my Swift FX, but 99.999% of the time I do not hear it.
The machine delivers GREAT therapy. My AHI's are consistently below 1.0, usually less than 0.5. The software is wonderfully detailed and easy to use, but the LED screen on the machine is not very helpful at all.
Given a choice, I would have chosen the S9 simply because of all the info on the LED screen, but it was not an option for me. However, the PR S1 is a very good machine, and I'm not terribly disappointed I can't have the S9 (just a little jealous of the screen info )

Re: what do you think? Resmed or Respironics?
Kathy, here's the PR System One REMstar Pro with "C-Flex Plus": https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... -plus.html. The model number there is DS450S, so I think that's the machine that your DME is offering you. As Janknitz mentioned, just be sure they don't give you the PR System One REMstar Plus model of machine, as that one's not fully data capable.
Re: what do you think? Resmed or Respironics?
the machine janknitz has is a very good machine!
unless you are a shallow breather.. because it has a pressure pulse function that blows air at you if you dont inhale in thirteen seconds..
very very few people even notice that..
I think you will really like it if you get it, and you can download the information, so dont worry too much that you only get the weekly average on
the screen..

Re: what do you think? Resmed or Respironics?
I installed ResScan 3.7 and later upgraded to 3.11 on Windows 7 64 bit with no problems whatsoever. Plain vanilla install. My doctors office (a large practice) has multiple machines for reading cards, with both ResScan (ResMed) and Encore Pro (Respironics) software and card readers on each one.kaykrazy wrote:Sounds like neither software works with Windows 7 at this time. You may have a harder time finding doctors with F&P or DeVilbiss software, but if you have the software at home, you always could print the reports and bring them with you.
