Nasal Aire tubes stiff
Nasal Aire tubes stiff
H--
I have had a Nasal Aire for the last year. In the last month the tubes that run from the ribbed tube to my nostrils has gotten stiff.
Is there a way to soften them again? If not, how can I find replacement tubes at a reasonable cost?
Thanks!

Nasalaire
Doug,
I was browsing through the posts to see if anyone was a user of the Nasalaire or the CPAP-Pro. I see you have used the Nasalaire. I am resigning myself to the fact I must go the CPAP route rather than surgery, but cannot see myself using a regular mask ... too claustrophobic and uncomfortable ... I saw the Nasalaire on the net and thought "THAT might be for me". Do you find it comfortable? Any problems? Anything you can tell me would be SOOO appreciated !!
Thanks

Nasal Aire II new user
Hello Geminibutterfly,
I have been on CPAP for a few weeks now, using the Nasal Aire II. I started with a size small, which leaked and moved around, irritating the inside of my nose and keeping me awake with the noise. I was given a sample set of medium, which fits much better -- a tighter fit means less movement to irritate your nose and less noisy leaking. I have ordered a medium plus to try -- I haven't gotten it yet. I have modified the provided headgear by using the back of the neck strap and a wide headband from the drugstore through the loops that hold the hose -- it seems to hold things in place better than the head strap with loops provided (for me at least!).
I also use a saline gel in my nose 2x/day and a heated humidifier -- they all seem to help! I covered the hoses where they touch my skin with surgitubing (a tubular, cotton bandage for fingers), as I didn't like the feel of the tube on my skin -- that really increased the comfort, as well as a snuggle hose cover. I wear glasses, so the Nasal Aire II seemed like a good choice, and with less "stuff" hanging from and strapped to your head!
I am now 100% compliant, sleeping better every night, and feeling better every day.
Hi Doug: I noticed on cpap.com that you can buy just the prongs if your hoses are still good. Check it out under "nasal prong systems".
I have had a few bad nights, but it is getting better and worth getting used to for better health!

Hey Jane,
Thnaks for the info on the things you have done to make your NasalAire comfortable to you. I tried these Nasal prongs when I was fitted for my current mask and they seemed like they would irritate me as well. I have the opporturnity to give them another try for free and your mesasures may make it possible for me to use. I wear glasses too and have three little young uns so I need headgear that is easy on easy off. I'm going to give you techniques a try.

Thanks, Jane!
Thanks for your input, Jane. I have been beside myself for the past couple days. I had vowed to do ANYTHING before resorting to a darn mask and machine, but was told the Pillar procedure wouldn't be for me, and other surgical options didn't sound too ideal, so.... I broke down (literally) and said I would try CPAP. The Nasalaire "contraption" looks like it MIGHT work for me, in that I was VERY claustrophobic with the mask I had during my CPAP study, as well as bruised and uncomfortable ! And I don't sleep on my back, and it SOUNDS like I will be able to sleep in different positions? Someone had suggested the Mirage Swift, but the DME my doctor uses doesn't deal with that company and so I'm sticking with my first thought, the Nasalaire. I surely hope it works. I am dreading it, but I am looking forward to feeling better in the long run (my fatigue is unbearable), and my boyfriend is looking forward to MAYBE someday not having to wear earplugs to bed every night !!
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
