I hear ya, Jordy. But some electric power companies do offer a decent savings on your electric bill if your doctor substantiates that you are using "life support" equipment. Mine just doesn't happen to be one of the more generous ones and, obviously, neither is yours. (Cost me my first month's discount to pay the doctor's office for filling out the necessary form + 10 cents from the next month's discount, i.e. $5 to fill out the form).

Slinky - thanks for the input. We currently offer the iGo Portable Oxygen Concentrator which is much like the Eclipse: you can review the product at http://www.igopoc.com. Unfortunately neither portable concentrator is as quiet as your CPAP - they tend to operate around 40 dBA in pulse mode and 48 dBA in continuous flow mode. Our unit will NOT charge when plugged into a DC outlet, but the battery will not discharge either. The battery will automatically recharge when its connected to an AC power source.

As for the electricity consumption issue, that is tough on users. We did try to address this in our 5 Liter Compact Concentrator with a feature called "Turn-Down Technology". Essentially the unit will turn down its cycling when the flow is set at 2.5 LPM or less. When the unit is operating above 2.5 LPM the wattage consumption is 310 W; when its operating at or below 2.5 LPM the wattage consumption is 270 W.

We are doing our best to meet the needs of the market, unfortunately sometimes the components that go into our products can't keep up.

Thanks for the info, DVM. I'll check out that iGo. I'll be buying out of pocket if and when I get some pennies saved up. *sigh*

is it better to bleed your O2 in on the mask, on the tube near your mask or near the bipap machine?

I've only had 02 bled in at an attachment on humidifier that fits at humidifier/hose connection so I can't speak for any other type of set up to bleed 02 in - but - I'm pretty sure I'd rather NOT have the 02 bled in at the mask allowing the tubing one more drag on my mask as I move and for similar reason I'd prefer the 02 not be bled in somewhere on the hose near the mask.

torontoCPAPguy,

We have had three different oxygen concentrators in the past year. The first one that we started with was the Devilbiss 525 and we had no issues with it whatsoever. It ran a 48 decibel average. It took getting used to the sound but it was bearable. The reason that we got rid of the Devilbiss 525 was that the DME was no longer in-network 01-01-2011 and we had to switch.

We switched to an Invacare Platinum that ran a 58 decibel average. It had over 50,000 hours on it and was so noisy that it disrupted the baby monitor that we used and we had to move the little one back in with us! (The little one is the one on the oxygen.)

We then had the DME switch us to the Invacare Perfecto 2 that operates with a decibel average <43.

We liked both the Devilbiss 525 and the Invacare Perfecto2. They are both good machines. The noise is really hard to get accustomed to no matter what machine that you get but that is the way the machines work.

As for power consumption the Devilbiss 525 and the Invacare Perfecto2 were about the same. The Invacare Platinum consumed more energy as it did not have a way of using less power below 2 liters.

We may look into purchasing soon as it is a cash hog. The oxygen supplies used exceed our insurance cap for Durable Medical Equipment for the year. Once we get the results back on a test we just had done on the little one we will have the necessary information to make our decision to purchase a concentrator or continue with the insurance “rental” of the equipment.

I wish you well!

L, Mother of three angels, one of whom forgets to breathe.

when I first develop COPD I used a millenium resperonics concentrator for several years then they given Invacare perfecto 2. the first one the flowmeter wouldn't stay stationary at fluctuated about half a liter. the second one the service wasn't properly done I was left with the same filter for over 10 months. of course I was having problems with my eyes in the back of my throat and I finally had to make sure to call them every few months to get a changed cuz it was totally filthy. because there is only one filter in the perfecto 2 it has caused me harm. I lost 10 percent of my breathing capacity. even with a brand new machine and new filters. now I am back online millenium which has additional filters and I am feeling much better let's hope I can bounce back

How many Lpm of O2 does it take to push your eyes out of your throat. I keep mine set at 3 Lpm, I hope it keeps my eyes on front of my face. I'd clean the house a little as well as the filters. Jim

Love old threads, nothing like a chance to read about defunct machines and their failures. My filters stay clean, but again I don't all cats, and only dog sit when needed. My wifelikes to ride the sweeper.

Is it true that Oxygen Concentrators really kill cancer? Does anyone have experiences?

There has been speculation that hyperbaric oxygen therapy MAY treat cancer, but no conclusive studies to date. Garden variety concentrator? Nope.
