S9ers Have you changed the EPR Inhale Type?
S9ers Have you changed the EPR Inhale Type?
There is a setting on the S9 EPR for Inhale Type that I'm curious about.
It can be set to medium or fast and the default setting is medium.
I'd be interested to anyone who knows a bit more about this feature setting.
Has anyone tried changing it to fast? If so what difference if any did you notice?
Cheers

Re: S9ers Have you changed the EPR Inhale Type?
I have that setting on my Autoset II. I have messed around with it, and it changes the speed at which EPR is activated (or deactivated); something like that. It felt very strange on "fast" for me, so I put it back to the default of "medium."

Re: S9ers Have you changed the EPR Inhale Type?
I tried it on both the S8 and S9. Fast is too fast for me.

Re: S9ers Have you changed the EPR Inhale Type?
Good question uncle Bob. I don't use EPR but just wondering if the fast setting would be better for centrals if I used EPR?
Re: S9ers Have you changed the EPR Inhale Type?
"EPR Inhale" (medium/fast) sets the rate at which pressure returns to therapy pressure during inhalation.
I tried both settings on my S8 machine. "Fast" was too fast for me too.

crikey! I didnt even know that it had that feature! (shocked little icon with big eyes)
mine must not be set on fast, or I would be going more nuts than I have been, but I will check it!
thanks!

"Fast" is without the Easy-Breathe. "Medium" is Easy-Breathe.
see Resmed's EPR with Easy-Breathe, at the very end.

Re: S9ers Have you changed the EPR Inhale Type?
Interesting. I always thought that EPR was non-adjustable.
I suppose that EPR Inhale only takes effect when EPR is enabled.

The med/fast "EPR Inhale" setting is only available in CPAP mode on the S9 Autoset. You won't see it as a menu option if you have the machine set to Auto mode.elena88 wrote:um, I cant find it.. it has epr one, two, or three, but I dont see an inhale type function on the menu?

Re: S9ers Have you changed the EPR Inhale Type?
I just checked the Clinical Manual for the S9 (Page 19). It appears the option to change "EPR Inhale" from medium to fast only available in CPAP mode, not Autoset.
My original sleep study indicated I get more centrals at pressures higher than 6. Sure enough, whenever I try to turn the pressure up I do get more centrals. This is just a guess, but my gut feeling is (in spite of more centrals), I would feel better with a higher pressure. Right now my EPR is set at 3 only because my sleep study recommended it. Truth is, I have tried setting EPR at Off, 1, 2 and 3, and simply can't tell the difference with the medium (default) setting.
That is an interesting concept. I think I will try bumping my pressure to 8 for a couple of days next week, then turning it to fast and see if it changes the number of centrals I have. (I don't want to do it until after my sleep study on Sunday.)snoresliketrain wrote:Good question uncle Bob. At a of 3 cm/h2o EPR doens't even kick in.frh wrote:I just checked the Clinical Manual for the S9 (Page 19). It appears the option to change "EPR Inhale" from medium to fast only available in CPAP mode, not Autoset.

Re: S9ers Have you changed the EPR Inhale Type?
frh, I believe that if you have your CPAP pressure set at 6 and are using EPR at 3, your EPR is actually at 2 since the lowest the machine pressure can go is 4. In other words, with EPR at 3, your inhale pressure is 6 and your exhale pressure is 4, and if your EPR is at 2, it's the same. That may be why you weren't feeling the difference. I feel a huge difference in EPR between the 1 and 3 settings when used at higher pressures.
