I am amazed at this point that out of 60 responders, only 8 feel that their success is less than average.
My first reaction is "I hope those 8 are posting specific questions for suggestions."
My second reaction is "We must be doing something right."
My third reaction is "Maybe some unsigned lurkers need to sign up just to get their vote in."
My fourth reaction is "Jeff, you're over-thinking things again; just chill and enjoy the poll, man."

If that's meant to be a poll within a poll, please put me down one vote for number 4.jnk wrote:I am amazed at this point that out of 60 responders, only 8 feel that their success is less than average.

Considering I started at about a 1, I'm pleased to say I'm a 10, and it's all thanks to this forum and the great and giving people here.

This is not a random sample of CPAP users. Of this we can be certain.

Feel free to propose you own spin. That's what polls are for!

So among those who are compliant, and who seek unlimited knowledge on this forum beyond that provided by their limited professionals, and who spend enough time reading this site to bother to answer polls (and, and, and...), the results would seem to suggest that CPAP use is a relative breeze (no pun intended). Too bad it does not generalize to the real world, where it is well known (by those who know well) that there is a high rate of noncompliance with CPAP. But it is still a fun poll.
As usual, I fit into no category. Pass the popcorn, please. With lots of butter on it, for protein. I'm on a new diet.

Who needs "the real world"? Here, we all have one another. Maybe more people from the real world need to end up here.

If they did, surely the compliance rate would go up.who wrote:Who needs "the real world"? Here, we all have one another. Maybe more people from the real world need to end up here.

Re: POLL: How would you rate YOUR success (1-10) w/ PAP therapy?
I look forward to bedtime too, and I've come a long way considering in those first weeks of therapy how much I dreaded going to bed. Now it just feels so GOOD to sleep with CPAP on.I am so happy with my treatment I look forward to going bed so I can put on my cpap.I breath so much better with it on.
I wasn't much of a sleeper before CPAP because almost every night I'd wake either with horrible reflux or hot flashes with a pounding heart and every negative thought in the world. The last few years I found I could avoid all those symptoms by going to bed at 2 or 3 a.m.--so exhausted that I guess I slept through them. I had to wake at 6 every morning--not a good way to go through life! The first weeks of CPAP were even worse!
Now I can easily go to sleep at a decent hour, sleep all night, and wake feeling like I'm floating on a cloud.

Re: POLL: How would you rate YOUR success (1-10) w/ PAP therapy?
Four months ago I could not remember anything, fell asleap every time I sat down, I was at the end of my rope. I still have some adjustments to make and I still get a little tired in the afternoon so maybe not a 10 yet but I'd go with 9+. And most of that is due to all the wonderful information I received on this site that lead me to get a machine that actually worked and make adjustments to make it work well.

As opposed to falling asleep while driving and in the middle of a conversation, a definite 8-10. Thank God for CPAP and finally discovering the problem.

Re: POLL: How would you rate YOUR success (1-10) w/ PAP therapy?
My success....with the mechanics was pretty immediate. Low to no leak results consistently, no fighting with mask in my sleep, no equipment problems, got software and review detail as needed....
Many things improved.......
And future improvements are likely going to be from being able to focus now on some underlying issues that affect sleep.....such as:
Function and sleep being disrupted by length of day light (currently doing 30 min light therapy every morning and the quantity of sleep is trending upward...woohoo!!!!!!)
Behavioral issues contributing to insomnia.......(working on that and I see improvement when I am better at bedding down between 10:30 and midnight)
Various insomnia issues separate from 30+ year old habit of avoiding sleep.....I might need professional addressing of these if consistant attending to the going to bed issue doesn't resolve..or at least improve my daily functioning so that it is not a problem.
So, CPAP therapy is going great, and more improvement in functioning is needed.........but I am headed in the right direction and making progress thanks TO CPAP.
