Muse's Absence...for those interested

Post by Muse-Inc » Thu Aug 05, 2010 7:56 pm

Not that I've wanted to be absent, but...well, I had a frozen shoulder with brachial plexus compression...painful, couldn't raise arm. Doc said no mousing, no computer. So, after that begins to loosen up and heal, I fall, er, the durned foyer step moved, yup, 22 yrs in the same place and it up and moves. I land on the fully-functional shoulder & knee on that same side...lovely, now I have two out of whack shoulders. This is no longer amusing and I am in real pain. The worst is that I now must sleep on my back and that hurts my shoulders so I hunt around for what will prop my arms up a bit & change the angle. 'Cause I gotta sleep propped up, this is a huge deal...I haven't sleep on my back since my primary's tentative diagnosis of OSA April '07. My AHI which was averages 1.2, goes to 5 with some frank apneas (centrals maybe, no pressure increase at end or following) and some obstructives ranging in length from 10-20 secs. Leak way up too, gravity not hose pulling, so I tightening straps a bit and that helps. Pressure up too: instead of 95ths at 10.4, they're now in the 13s with max up to 14.8, way higher than my previous high of 11.8. Yesterday, I camped out my docs as it looks like I have cellulitis on the banged up knee and ankle on that side . Doc says could be so he takes enough blood for several vampires to culture it ensuring that what he's putting me is the right antibiotic and to see if it's really an infection tho it sure looks & feels like it. So, I'm on diclofenac, Levaquin (yeah, I read the warnings, I know but a lot of of the pathogens causing cellulitis are now cephalosporin-resistant), and an antibiotic cream. Last night was the first night with the blessed pain med...I slept 8 hrs, without a single wakeup (haven't that since I wore the OptiLife and was dumb as a skunk about apnea treatment , fall '08 at least), and numbers more like my usual. I'm still exhausted & still have some pain & limited mobility in shoulders-arms. And, the heat makes it all worse to tolerate. Plus, my 3-wk gig that started end of last Feb is winding down...great way to impress, half days . Whee, what an adventure !

I'm very sorry for you Muse-Inc, I know what it is a frozen shoulder (I had two frozen shoulders).

I wish you the fastest and more possibly pain free recovery.

Something that helped me was to put two pillows in a pile in front of me, to rest my worst arm on top of that while sleeping on one side, that really helps to have the arm at the same level of your shoulder. This allows you to sleep on the side in case your apnea bothers you while on your back.

All the Best!

Rosie

I too missed you Muse and glad to see you are back but not so glad to hear why you have been gone. Get well and heal up soon. I think once you start to feel better and are able to sleep more on your sides, your treatment would go back to what it normally is. It's seems when I have pain it affect ny OSA therapy and my leak and pressure needs increases. Hang in there.

Bless your heart (and your shoulders)! No tips, just sympathy - and lots of it. (Partly because I feel guilty for thinking how glad I am it isn't me. ) Hope you break all records in recovery!

Ouch, Muse. That was a painful series of problems to go through. I hope you healing is as expectedly short as your 3 week job was unexpectedly long! And may you find another such job - and full health - very very soon.

O..

Glad to have you back Muse. I KNOW what shoulder pain is like and how it affects sleeping only too well, so I sympathize!

It's always hard to know why people are not on the forum for a time. We assume people are busy or away on holiday. Your absence has not been a holiday!

Hope all is well soon!

Hi Muse

Sorry to hear about your troubles

If conventional treatment does not work for your shoulders I would suggest you check out Myotherapy.

A few years ago I fell off a high stool, my shoulder landing on a support. Result- a lot of pain and a frozen shoulder. The Doctor (sorry - ex-Doctor) said nothing could be done. So I had a virtually useless left arm.

Went to a Myotherapist, and by exercising and manipulating my arm over a couple of months he got back for me the full use of my left arm.

Here is what they do -

Good that you are back with us - take care.

Oh Muse, that's just awful! I have an old injury in my right shoulder from landing on it full-force practicing martial arts rolls. Sucks. All the best for a speedy recovery.

Did you happen to see that Marie had the baby? Our son Jonah is here. You can see his little pouty sad face (post sponge bath) in my avatar.

Welcome back, Muse. Sorry to hear the reason for your absence, but I hope you heal quickly.
