Help with Soft Gel Mask Please......

Post by FatiguedMe » Sun Aug 01, 2010 11:35 am

Hey Ladies and Gents,
I have the Soft Gel. Have been using it for just over a month. I HAD been doing great with it. (Keyword: HAD) I am running into having to tighten it up to prevent leaks = squished face with Angelina Jolie lips first thing in the morning LOL
What am I doing wrong here and are there any modifications to help with this mask? Please help me, I am getting the best therapy with this one! Just need to figure out how to get the same without the squishies!
Love your hearts,
Susan

is your mouth dry? Maybe you are breathing out your mouth. I know that i did great the first coupple of weeks then started having high leaks, it ended up being me breathing out my mouth.

Thank you for responding.
I am not mouth leaking with this mask and I use the papcap. My leaks are near the eyes and at the lower corners of the nose. I get the eye area set then the bottom goes wacko. I have tried tightening bottom and I have the top set, leakage gets low but like I said I have it too tight. I am using the medium size provided by the DME, considering ordering the small next time. How long is the life of this cushion? I sure hope you get more than a month out of this one. At first I got a great seal, but it seems to be breaking down over time. I am washing my face at bedtime and wiping mask with warm washcloth. This is too quick for it to be losing seal I would think! Resmed makes very good masks but the cushions are another area in need of huge improvement.
Is there a secret handshake for this mask (giggle) if so can someone clue me in!
Again Thank you for all help,
Susan

I'm using the same cushion since Nov. '09. It has definitely stretched out but I still get a good leak-free seal. I wash mine daily with baby shampoo and clean my face before bed. I even use the Padacheek nose bridge protector.

With you situation, I would consider; 1) wash the cushion more thoroughly in the morning and let it dry all day (I take into the shower with me), 2) trying the headgear instead of the Papcap, 3) try another cushion , or 4) switch sizes as it may that having stretched, it's now too big.

Hi md,
I appreciate your feedback. I only use the papcap for the chinstrap, I am using the Resmed headgear. I have to use this one until Sept, then I can order a small. I really think this one is too big because it almost covers my top lip and is between my eyes. I know when I first started I had a petite comfort gel nasal mask, so I am thinking I will do much better with a small. I love this mask and am very pleased with how much better I am feeling, just gotta get the tweaks right.
Thank you
Susan

Hi Susan,

Just be careful with the small softgel mask because not only is the cushion smaller but the whole mask is smaller meaning the forehead pads will be lower on the forehead. It almost looks like it was made for a child. I would see if you can try one on before you pay for it unless the DME or website has a good return policy.

Good Luck
