Well, to say he doesn't have confidence in the data may be stating it too strong. Specifically, I asked him about the number of centrals my machine was showing. He said something to the effect that the machine can get fooled and may be classifying something else as a central. His main concern at this point is that I am using the machine. Given the difficulty in getting someone to stick with this, I can see his point. If he can't keep me using it, it doesn't really matter what happens. I'd suspect, but don't know this, that he would trust the numbers from the sleep test more than those from the machine, which can really only look at my breathing. Just guessing, though.

Edit:
I just looked at my detailed data from last night. I think my AHI was something like 6 or 7, but looking at the detailed data I see that the VAST majority of my events were between 6:30 and 7 am. It just so happens that I woke up at 6:30 and tried to get back to sleep until about 7 when I gave up. Heck, I had slept for 8 hours, but I wanted more time. My point is that the high number of events for that half hour skewed my results to a higher AHI number. The rest of the night looked more peaceful than any of my previous nights (maybe 1 or two events/hour). I think my doctor, not knowing that I was able to look at the detailed data, was probably doing the right thing by telling me not to worry. Why let the results from that half hour, when I wasn't really asleep, worry me? Obviously, the point is to look at the detailed data rather than to rely on the average. For me, at least, it seems that the beginning or end of the night is where the majority of my events show up.

Re: Newbie with AHI question - UPDATED w/ MORE INFO

Hello! I've found my sleep study results -

From my first sleep study, they saw NO obstructive apneas but 92 hypopneas - AHI was 19.6 overall (33.2 during REM)

From my first titration (with CPAP) occasional central apneas were seen.

From my BiPAP titration my AHI was 5.9 with no central apneas.

Why were no central apneas seen in the study but my machine is now seeing them? Suggestions?
