reasonable care in shipping?

Post by araminta » Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:17 pm

I was very disappointed when my new replacement pillow for my Swift LT arrived in my mail box. And just as quickly, I was disappointed:

It was sent in the factory sealed plastic bag, which was simply placed in a manila envelope -- no foam padding, no bubble wrap, no nothing 'cept a packing slip. After spending $29 for this little doodad that is so critical to the whole cpap setup...and then seeing it shoved into my p.o. box without any padding...

I was expecting better packaging. When I inquired about it, they said it's their "standard way to ship them out".

But now I'm wondering what everyone else considers to be reasonable: Am I being overly cautious?

I think it would help if you would say exactly how it was damaged. I'm having trouble imagining that.

I understand how you feel..

when I ship things I make sure they arrive as safely as possible..

I sent my fitlife mask back to the dme, they said they would send a special envelope..

Okay, it arrives and its just a manila envelope! Not even bubble mailer.. the mask BARELY fit in there and this was
a very expensive mask, they were charging me almost five hundred for it! I called them and said I thought the envelope was
unacceptable, and I would not be responsible for it if it broke in transit.. they said, that is how they always ship stuff..
Well, I managed to shove it in the envelope, and I insured it for five hundred..
and they said they never received it.

Okay, so after the envelope incident, and a billing screw up that gave me a heart attack, no more business from me..

These masks are our lifeline and I too, feel they should be protected when they are shipped..

Was the pillow damaged?

I think siliconep pillows are flexible to come through the mail without damage unless really mishandled (like driving a truck over them). And less pacakaging is better for the planet.

I've been participating in the Great Pillow Exchange and I went out to buy a set of small mailing boxes. But some of my trades have been in padded or unpadded envelopes and all arrived in perfect condition.

BTW, check out cpapauction.com for pillow replacements if you must buy them. Much cheaper.

As long as it was received with no damage done, no foul. If it was damaged call and send it back, next time buy from someone that ships it like you want, it's your $$$. It's their business, more than likely they get to run it, you as a customer choose who you buy from.

Where I worked we had to reclaim mined land, the government controlled what they wanted the end result to be. The Government set the rules, we could put the land back stone by stone, or any other way they wanted, the more work involved the higher the bill. Usually to keep costs down the Government just set the specs for what they wanted and we supplied the finished land. Jim

I don't think it's been damaged, per se. If it were, they'd certainly replace it.

But my expectation is that without so much as bubble wrap to protect from rough handling while traveling thru the post office, and then getting squeezed into a mail carrier's pouch, would have an impact on the material. And already, folks on the forum complain about how quickly the nasal pillows need to be replaced.

But that's my question - since I'm not a science wiz.
