are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas
Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas
A year and a few months in and I feel like a million bucks!
(no other health issues that would contribute to "tiredness", unless you count one 17 year old son stressing his mother out to the max)

I agree with LoQ. There are so many variables that it's impossible to know why you're still tired. Start with getting your machine set to your optimal pressure then move on to other things.williamco wrote:please exclude tiredness that is conclusively caused by other causes. we need to assess the efficacy of CPAP in eliminating tiredness that is cause by apnea

Guys, do you think 66% of people on CPAP who are still tired, all of them have other issues and variables other than apnea??!!. what a coincidence ?!
do you think it is possible that all the 66% who are still tired, they are all fully treated from apnea with their CPAP, and it is just something else. this can happen in some percentage to have other variables but not in the entire 66%
well, for me that is just too much of a stretch to go look for something else and turn my blind eye to apnea concidering it to be fully treated simply because I am on CPAP. it reminds me with a car mechanic trying to fix something wrong in the car, and after fixing it, the car still down, so he claims that something else is still wrong, and keep chasing wrong causes. simply because he didn't know how to fix the first problem but doesn't want to admit it
But, it is up to each indevidual, we don't have to agree on the significance of the poll number for people who are still tired after CPAP
it is still a big surprise to have this number 66% are still down

Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas
I also felt better within 12 hours - and continue to improve. It is not just tiredness - it is the O2 that is now doing its job. Within a month I my whole out look on life changed. Within the year and a few months I have had it I have had one Flu which turned into a mild case of pneumonia from which I recovered many many times faster then the last time I had it. Only one where I would normally have colds and flu several times. My ability to learn things is better. Tired was just one small symptom. You may still be tired but your body is getting oxygen and your organs are not deteriorating any more maybe it will take time for them to heal too. Malnutrition isn't cured by one good meal either.

Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas
It is self selected from mostly people who still have issues which is why they are on this board plus people like me who like to help people because at some point I was helped by others - more for migraines then for OSA but giving back is what I do.williamco wrote:Guys, do you think 66% of people on CPAP who are still tired, all of them have other issues and variables other than apnea??!!. what a coincidence ?!

Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas
I would be curious to see how many of these people who are tired and on CPAP are physically fit. We know the CPAP causes people to be fat, and I think a fat person would have less energy than a person who runs 3 miles several times a week.
I am reasonably fit and I have a very low body fat percentage, but I still feel fatigue with an AHI of 2 on CPAP. I have only been on CPAP for a couple weeks though.

I don't know what your point is. Why are things so black and white in your world?williamco wrote:Guys, do you think 66% of people on CPAP who are still tired, all of them have other issues and variables other than apnea??!!. what a coincidence ?!

Is it your view that if a person is still tired, and the actual reason they are still tired is that their SDB has not been treated effectively, that somehow they will magically know what they need to change with their treatment, change it tonight, and tomorrow they are well? It sounds like you think that if people are saying they are still tired, then they just haven't worked hard enough or looked carefully enough to figure out the problem.
I'm afraid the real world is a lot more complicated than that. People don't get all of the data they need at once. Sometimes they have to fix one problem before another one is revealed. It's a process, a journey, a series of steps, not a switch that you flip.
Anyway, I'm out of ideas on how to communicate this any better, so I'll stop.

I don't feel worked up over it at all. Is it possible you are reading something into my words that isn't there? I suppose I should ask you why you are so worked up over my comments.Prevail wrote:Why are you getting so worked up over his comments?

And for the record, I'm not worked up over what you wrote, either.
Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas
I could be a poster child for CPAP. I'm so grateful to my wife for making me take my sleep study - that I put off for years. It took about three months to really feel better and see results of increased energy, off the couch and out of the house on a moments notice, back to the gym, loss of wieght, not sleepy behind the wheel anymore, no so grumpy anymore (but I like pretending to keep my troops and family on thier toes-lol). I have to admit that I don't like the lines on my face in the morning and my long term relationship to the machine, but I'll never go back to the old non-CPAP me....
Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas
where the heck did you get the idea that I am blaming you or people who are still tired that they haven't worked hard enough or looked carefully enough to figure out the problem.??LoQ wrote:

look at my second post in this thread and my statement
I am just thinking that CPAP might still need something extra with it, some adjustment, some more care in applying from the medical professionals , ..etc"
I am one of those tired people, who would I blame? myself? relax, or read carefully or go to bed
Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas
Sometimes you can't conclusively prove that a certain thing is or is not the cause of fatigue. How can you conclusively prove your OSA is not properly being treated because you're still fatigued, if your AHI and oxygen numbers are great? I would think most folks would start looking elsewhere in this case. And just because fatigue is a symptom of something you do have, doesn't mean that in your case the fatigue is conclusively caused by that. You could have several health issues, all with fatigue as a symptom. But then not everyone has every symptom of every health issue. It can make your head spin trying to figure it all out. I have never had a doctor tell me that my fatigue was conclusively caused by any one of the health issues I have--including OSA. And then you get into other sleep issues besides OSA.
Sleep is such a complex thing, I really think it's possible that even with good numbers and good oxygen, something else could be going on that just can't be measured or seen.
Bottom line, fatigue is something that can be caused by so many different things, I think it's almost impossible to always be able to narrow down the exact specific reason(s). Doesn't mean you stop trying, but sometimes you just feel like throwing up your hands with frustration and want to resign yourself to feeling this way the rest of your life. This is especially true, I think, if you don't have health insurance and/or a bunch of money to keep going back to all you physicians over and over again. Real pessimistic, I know!

only the first option in the poll is complete recovery, all other options are incomplete or no recovery at allnobody wrote:Where are you getting this 66% number?
so you look at perectage of first option and the rest are no complete/no recovery- so far it is around 65% having no complete recovery
I agree that this is not a random sample because people who are well treated usually they don't hang around here much, but neverthe less it is showing the size of the problem
Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas
Im must be one of those oddballs because I cant say Im STILL tired after being on cpap, as
I was NEVER tired before cpap..
epworth sleep scale of zero... never took a nap, bundle of energy all day and night..
which isnt normal either..
Im more tired than I have ever been in my life, so now i know what the rest of you are talking about, how your lives were before cpap.
However, cpap cured my nocturia, and heart irregularities, and the burning in my skin from
the RLS at night when I dont wear it.... and Im about to dial into my perfect pressure in the next few days.. and
I hope to be one of those people who will be screaming from the rooftops.. Yahoo! I sleep, I get up and I feel "refreshed"
My husband says that, and I look at him like he is totally insane.. I have never felt refreshed when I have gotten up in the morning..
I feel like a truck ran over me, and I thought THAT was normal..
P.S Here is something I didnt know.. I thought restless leg syndrome meant that you move your legs at night! NO, thats periodic limb movement,
which can be a component of RLS... My cousin and I both have RLS, and I have what would be described as a hot burning sensation on my arms
and legs and all over my body, and she has a creepy crawling zippy feeling.. neither one of us move our legs.. but MINE is gone when I wear my cpap!
mmm, maybe I should tell her to get a sleep study!
