Mirage Swift Fx
Re: Mirage Swift Fx
I've been using the same nasal pillow on my LT for months with no problems with non-sealing. When I tried th FX I thought the pillow was WAY more pliable than the one on the LT.
I also was REAL annoyed with the angle of the air blowing out. I couldn't escape it.
Newer is NOT always better. Guess it takes trying something different to appreciate what you have. LOL

Re: Mirage Swift Fx
I used my Swift FX for a couple of weeks, and enjoyed the fit and comfort, but noticed an increasing problem with swallowing air. It was getting a little difficult to go out in public!
When I switched back to my LT, the problem went away, so I guess that choice is made for me.

Re: Mirage Swift Fx
When I can, I'll investigate whether a larger schnozzle will also work.

I still like the FX despite all its flaws, but I've been back to using the LT for a few nights and it sure is easier to move around.

Re: Mirage Swift Fx
I see we are all different because mine fits like a glove and I've been using the same pillows since april and still have no issues with leaking.
Maybe some people have the back straps too loose, yes the mask needs to be fitted loosely but some might have the straps too loose.
Some people tend to use pillows which are in fact to small, If your a male most likely you will require a large pillow even though your facial features seem smaller than most. The pillows may seem to fit correctly but in order to make that determination you may need to try different sizes for a few days at a time. One night doesn't usually qualify to make an accurate judgment since you may have had a bad nights sleep due to other factors hence the reasoning behind trying for a couple of nights or 3.
The one trick I found that works to seal the pillows is to run your machine at your full pressure (no ramping) then put the mask on. Once your mask is on pull it away from your nose until it no longer touches then let it back down and twitch your nose (like in bewitched) and it will seat itself properly.
The exhaust does blow downward which is annoying especially when it hits the sheets, I now tuck the sheets in under my neck/chin area and that has helped a bunch.
good luck and remember not every mask is meant for every person.

Re: Mirage Swift Fx
I have been using the FX in and off. Mostly off lately. I do like the FX , but I've been back to using the Swift LT for HER for a few nights and it seems more comfortable to me for some reason. The FX has a poor design when it comes to removing the nasal pillows to wash them. You have to practically dismantle the whole dang mask to get them off. Then once you try to get them back on that metal round thing--I practically smash up each pillow to cram them on and get them to fit back over that round disk!! Who made that up I wonder?? That is most annoying part of the mask to me and that you cannot change the angle of the pillows once they are against your nares.
It is very frustrating. I tried out all the nasal pillows that came with my kit and ended up needing the XSMALL. So I had to wait a few weeks to get those sent me from Apria. I use the SMALLS on the Swift LT and XS on the FX.
I guess I will keep on trying the FX as I really want it to work for me. I do have a brand spanking new Swift LT for her in the closet for back up since I do have really great insurance.
I think it all depends on your face and nose shape --plus what you are willing to try out to find your great fitting mask!!!

Re: Mirage Swift Fx
If anyone is listening out there, the one really good thing about the Mirage Micro is the air vent, which pushes the air out in a cone shape. That would be really nice on the FX. My poor husband would really appreciate it--and it's nice and quiet. Hey, ResMed! even the best can be better; and you could save some marriages. Puh-leeeze!

Re: Mirage Swift Fx
I'll second that! I used the Mirage Micro for a while. It leaked like a sieve and tore my nose to shreds, but it was the quietest mask ever.
Too bad the mask manufacturers never talk to US and ask us what should go into a great mask.
I'm liking my FX more and more with some simple tweaks. I'm using a homemade hose management system to hang the hose over my head so that there is absolutely no weight pulling down on the nasal pillows. This helps a lot and the added bonus is that the vent flow is directed UP into the air instead of down onto ME, and I am much happier. Because of the placement of the hook holding the hose (over my right shoulder if I'm on my back), when I lay on my left side facing my husband the airflow is directed totally away from him.
I do have my back strap pretty tight and it is lined with velcro hook tape (thanks to UFO13). This greatly reduces the slippage of the headgear.
And, I am trying out some mask covers for the FX made by Padacheek to try to reduce the rainout in the pillows. Last night was my first trial. The cover made the FX so stable that I didn't have to readjust the darn pillows even once during the night, and I think it seriously dampened the conducted sound making the mask much quieter.

Re: Mirage Swift Fx
hi everyone,
i have used both nasal pillows and a nasal mask....
one thing i did not like about the regular mask is after cleaning it, trying to get the foam back in the silicon - it never fit right... the nasal pillows are easy to clean - i know there are nasal masks out their without the silicone foam - i am not sure the brand of the nasal pillows i have now - i think it may be fisher paykal
well i am up for a new mask and was looking at the mirage swift II -, and then i came across this thread - how does the swift ii compare with the fx and what is the lt ?
sorry for the basic questions - apparently and admittingly a newbie when it comes to cpap

Re: Mirage Swift Fx
The Mirage Swift II is the oldest of the three. It was followed by the LT, and then the FX. Each one was supposed to be an improvement over the previous version. However, some people on the boart find that the LT works better for them than the FX, and others prefer the FX. I think that you should focus on comparing these two, and eliminate the older Swift II.

I had one mask I loved for it's quietness, but do not remember what it was - a prototype, I think. It had other issues to great to keep using it, but oh, the quiet.
I'm definitely interested in hearing more, too. When I got the FX, I got three size small pillows. I worried at the time that this might not be a good thing since it was my first time using the mask. Today I begged for another size and will get it in the mail, but I had to do some pretty fast talking.Janknitz wrote: ...
