When I underwent the sleep study here in Tennessee, I felt like the whole sleep study was geared toward fitting (selling) CPAP machines, rather than simply assess my sleeping. I was told the only real method for treatment was CPAP and really feel like the medical system was pushing this technology as it is a money maker. I decided to try out a mouth appliance - the cheapest one I could find on amazon. It took about 2 weeks to get used to the thing, but it actually worked. I am sure it wouldn't work for everyone, but just the idea that the doctor wouldn't recommend trying it made me so upset that I made a
blog on how I stopped snoring on my own. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else out there feels maybe like they have been steered only toward the CPAP based solution?

Just borrow an auto-titrating unit and try it at home. See what pressure it determines for you and that will have establish the diagnosis.

You were asked to sleep on your back because it provokes the most events. They need the result of that part of the test as a 'bottom line', baseline for your record so they have something to compare with on future tests. It's standard, and if someone else did not have it done on their test, there are many reasons for that, which may only apply to those individuals, but the test is absolutely valid.

Mine was a split study they put the cpap machine on me after about 1:00. They also told me to sleep on my back but I told her that i usually sleep on my side, she said to try to fall asleep on my back but if i was having troubles to go ahead and sleep on my side. I fell asleep on my back in less the 10 minutes.
The results of my study showed that with the cpap i was definitely getting a better quality of sleep. It's been 3 weeks or a month for me now and I think that the cpap works great.

Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD.
