I have set my S9 to provide a 5 minute ramp starting at 6cms and ending at 14cms. I measured, using the sweep second hand on my bedside alarm clock, how long it takes to get from a display reading of 0.0 to 6.0 when using SmartStart..... it takes ~3 seconds.
I certainly don't have any issues with the way SmartStart works on my S9
Cheers,
Bill

As I understand it, Physician isn't talking about SmartStart. He's talking about the time the S9 takes to get to pressure when pressing the "On" button. It takes about 9-10 seconds to get to pressure of 8, whereas the S8 got to pressure almost immediately.
Physician, maybe you should try the SmartStart feature (automatically turns machine on when you put on mask, and off when you remove it) and see if it gets to pressure faster? I don't think that works with full-face masks, though. At least it didn't with the S8 machines.

Correct. I am NOT talking about SmartStart. I'm only referring to the time it takes from unit on to full lower limit pressure.
That ten seconds is with SmartStart ON or OFF. It was a mistake for ResMed to delete that quick pressure rise when they went from the S8 to the S9. For the few with whom it might have bothered on te S8, then they should have made it an
option an user selectable on the S9.
Any questions ?
Any answers ?

How convenient and suspicious. The corporate office of Resmed is right near you. Do you work for them ?

Physician, JeffreyJitza, Suspicious,
Why don't you just take that Resmed S9 that you aren't happy with back to your local DME provider and tell them that it just isn't working for you and request the PR SystemOne instead?
I can't speak for the Resmed S9s since I need a bi-level and so am using the PR S1 BPBP Auto. I did, however, have the opportunity to use the Resmed S8 Elite and S8 AutoSet Vantage from Oct 06 until Mar 08 and loved them - so much so that when I was switched to a bi-level I INSISTED on the Resmed VPAP Auto when my provider would have preferred to provide the Respironics M Series Auto.
Resmed and Philips Respironics both make darn good PAPs. Most of us do as well w/one brand or the other, or even another brand. Then there are the minority of us who do better w/the algorhythm or comfort features of one brand or another. For those who have a problem w/a particular brand's algorhythm it is better for them to acknowledge that and get switched to another brand before that first crucial 30 days is up.
Making your discomfort w/the S9's therapy known to your local DME provider reaches the ears of Resmed more quickly than stressing the issue in any of the apnea support forums since Resmed considers the local DME providers their direct customers. If the local DME providers get enough complaints about the S9s therapy they will switch to PR or DeVilbiss or Fisher & Paykel or Sandman.
Women are Angels. And when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly.....on a broomstick. We are flexible like that.
My computer says I need to upgrade my brain to be compatible with its new software.

I was told a rumor that S8 users wanted a slow rev up, and that's why it now takes 9-10 seconds for the S9 to get to the proper set pressure, starting at zero.
What say all you S8 users and former S8 users ?
I didn't know the difference until getting my S9, but I rather like the fact that it ramps up in about five seconds slowly. I also seem to feel that the EPR on the S9 works better, or is that just me?
I have my S8 Auto set up in the den so that when I watch TV late at night when I am prone to falling asleep in front of the TV screen I have APAP going already. The difference is quite noticable on both regards.
