dose nose hair affect the seal on nasal pillows??

Post by ephskiing377 » Fri Jul 16, 2010 12:33 pm

Fellow cpapers,
I wear the ResMed Mirage Liberty Full Face cpap mask. I was wondering if nose hair affects the seal on my Mirage Liberty nasal pillows? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help!

Sincerely,
Chad

The pillows are designed to seal at the openings of the nostrils, not inside, so the hair should not be a problem unless it is very long. But trimming it certainly can't hurt.

You may feel the nose hair vibrating in the breeze if it gets too long but that is about it, much depends on the person really.
always a hosehead, almost a hoser.

I have also been wondering about possible problems caused by long nasal hair.

well, can’t help – while the primary seal is against outside bottom of nose the tip may help as a secondary seal against the inner periphery which is only near the bottom.

I recommend a good electric rotary cutter, a Panasonic worked well for me as did a Remington Model NE-3 wet/dry. The manual rotary cutters did not, they pulled hairs.

There are straight narrow electric cutters but it seems to me they need much more care in use. (I can’t see in the link provided above if the pictured cutter is rotary or straight.)

My mustache does not seem to be a problem with my Swift LT, although I will probably trim it more often now.
