Looking forward to a good night sleep

Post by Scotty415 » Thu Jul 15, 2010 6:22 am

I had my study back over Father's Day weekend and have gotten the results and appointment set up with the equipment company. With the extended time I've had to come to terms with actually wearing the "scuba" mask and being able to research different machines and masks, I think I'm finally ready.

I pick up my S9 on Monday and am looking forward to getting a good night sleep. I didn't realize how little I slept until I started paying better attention after the study. My wife is going to ask our Doctor to set her up with one too.

I figured since my insurance picked up a good portion of the cost I would get the best mask I could on Monday, but I also saw an oral one that I'd like to try. It was the Oracle HC452 Oral CPAP Mask. Has anyone used one of these successfully with a mustache and goatee? It looked like it may be easier for a mouth breathing side sleeper like me.

I'm glad I stumbled across your board here, there's a lot of good advise and encouragement to be found in the forums.

Thanks again,

Scott

I don't know about the oral mask, but I have tried several full face masks and have issues with leaking with a beard/goatee. I use the Activa LT nasal mask and that works well--no problem with the mustache. I use the ComfortGel Full Face mask as back-up when I can't breathe through my nose, but have to wear it pretty tight to stop leaks, so I avoid that unless necessary.

Welcome to the forum, Scotty! Several of our members have facial hair, and I expect they'll be along directly to advise you on mask selection. Masks are key to successful therapy, and they are a VERY individual decision, so be prepared to try several. Good luck, and let us know how things go!
