Best detergent for cleaning mask/tubing?

Post by joeattardi » Sun Jul 11, 2010 11:07 pm

Hi all!

I've got a question on cleaning. The manual for my S8 and mask say to use a "mild detergent". What do you use? Just some diluted dish soap? A specialized cleaning solution? If using dish soap, are there any types/ingredients that are bad to use?

As an aside: I'm still researching the more advanced ResMed models than my limited S8 Escape II - I've gotten recommendations to push my DME for an S9 instead. I'm doing a bit more research before I call them and make my case. Thanks again for all the helpful advice you've all given so far.

Thanks!

The most popular choices are Dr. Bronner's liquid soap, baby shampoo, and Ivory dishwashing liquid. Be sure not to use anything with a strong scent.

There is an S9 Escape, too. You don't want that either. You want either an AutoSet (automatic) or an Elite (CPAP with full data).

I have used ivory dishwashing liquid for years, has worked fine, very mild.

I use Seventh Generation dish soap. It's mild and effective, fragrance and color free. It's expensive if you buy it at Whole Foods, more reasonable at Target.

Some people use Ivory or Dawn dish soap--I prefer unscented because of asthma and allergies.

Ivory dish soap works fine for me, even with having allergies, classic scent has not been a problem, unscented may be best for others. Not sure if you can find ivory unscented.

Come to think of it, I've used Seventh Generation dishwashing liquid at my parents' house.

I use dilute Johnson's Baby Shampoo then water rinses, as per ResMed's advice.

I see that others have got the question under control already. I use Ivory dish soap for my equipment. I want to say welcome to the forum. I noticed you are from Massachusetts. I too am originally from Ma. Born and raised in Melrose. I moved north to NH for many years. In 2007 I decided to go south to Florida and thaw out. I live her and love it but I still have a New England Heart!. Every time I hear that distinct accent it makes me smile. So once again Welcome!! You will find the folks here to be helpful and friendly. By the way have you met Jaylee yet???

Dr Bronner's liquid Unscented

My doc or DME said for mask any non-scrub cleaner that I use on my face.....I guess the idea of decreasing chance that residue would cause probs for my skin. I can use Bronner's on my face, it doesn't leave residue, so that was a no brainer. I would use it for other components, if I got the urge to wash hose. I don't use my humidifier, so that is not an issue for me.

The bathroom is the worst place to hang a drying hose, so if you are going to wash it, let it dry elsewhere!!!

Kiss My Face liquid soap in Orange Blossom, or Philosophy shower gel in any scent. I actually like a little fragrance, I find it soothing.

Why is that? I would think just hang it over the shower curtain rod?
