We used our auto machine on straight pressure=12cms for over a year until my husband got fully adjusted to his mask, leak issues, and I was able to really interpret his daily reports . Only recently now that his data is steady and I'm pretty sure of his approximate pressure needs, I've changed to auto at a narrow range of 10.5-13.

I'd lay it on the line with the doctor that you have been on CPAP a long time already and part of assuring your compliance is that you need to take an active role in your therapy. That means access to data and collaboration with your provider on the settings.

If he/she is not comfortable with that, then I'm not sure you are going to be comfortable with that doctor. If you cannot communicate your needs and concerns, your care is compromised. So that's not a good doctor for you.

That doctor may be good for a certain type of patient, but not the type you'd find here on this forum. And I would guess that our compliance and treatment efficacy is far better than that doctor's patients.
