3 Nights with Swift FX & I'm impressed!

Post by deerhound » Sat Jun 19, 2010 8:34 pm

I decided to visit my DME Wednesday and give the FX a try. Very nice mask. Its lightweight, comfortable, and flexible. I toss and turn from side to side with short stops on my back. I didn't have to mess with the straps and reestablish a seal near as much as I have with any other mask. After 3 nights with better leak lines and much better feeling sleep I now have a new favorite mask. My AHI has stayed low. Thanks to everyone who has already reported on this mask for keeping us informed. I don't think I ever would have tried it, because it just doesn't look like it should work. Too simple to work. My Swift II is now in the standby box and my FX is on my hose and in my nose.

That's great, due to the heat I've gone back to my Swift FX (normally use an Activa) but find it too hot and slips around when you're hot and wake up in a ball of sweat. I love the Swift FX, it's the only nasal prong mask that I've actually been able to cope with. Yesterday I did wake up with sore nostrils as I had the mask too tight again, I find that the back strap tends to slip up the back of my head when I'm laying down, and if I adjust the top strap too much then it does the job of pulling the prongs closer and tighter to my nose but it makes them hurt more.

Usually I'm okay with it but some nights if I toss and turn a lot I find it irritates me more because I start feeling minute leaks and then start pulling the top head strap tighter and it's a vicious cycle.

One I do wish ResMed had done was to put a velcro strap on the top strap, I sometimes feel the tensioner when my head is against the pillow.

Glad you're getting on well with the mask!

Thanks
Dave

Hello Dave

I had the same problem with the Fx straps rolling up the back of my head i read a post here a while back about someone stapling a couple of small pieces of Velcro to the inside of the back of the mask strap,i've try it and it has work great for me you might want to give that a shot.If you try it make sure that u use the gripping part of the Velcro and not the fussy part, all you need is very small pieces and you won't even feel any discomford....

Regards.Phil

The velcro trick works great, but if you know somebody with a sewing machine, ask them to sew it in so that the staples don't end up scratching you or your bed linen! The sticky stuff on the velcro isn't good enough, and I prefer to buy non-sticky backed velcro as it's really hard to sew through the sticky stuff and ruins the needles.

You can initially staple the velcro in to decide placement and make sure it works for you, but in the long term, I recommend sewing.

I've seen the Velcro suggestion several times but no one specified which part of the Velcro to use.

So, is it the hook (rough) side or the loop (fuzzy) side?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Hook side. I know it sounds uncomfortable, but it's not. Works GREAT!

Thanks.

Now one more question: What is a "sewing machine"?
