It took me about a month to get use to having something on my face. The other stuff I'm still working on.

Right away. In fact, in the first 24 hour period, I got nearly 11 hours of sleep (in several sessions).

The daytime sleepiness started to disappear within a week or so.

I only slept about 6 hours during my titration, but when I left the sleep clinic, I felt like a million bucks. I felt so alert, vibrant, and that feeling of severe fatigue was gone.

When I started on cpap at home, I found that I sleep completely through the night after a couple of nights. I had a little trouble with the nasal pillow mask - Swift LT for her but slept well with my Comfort Gel Nasal Mask. I went onto try a Mirage Soft gel nasal mask and also a Swift FX - fell in love with the Swift FX. Also, I purchased a Regensis buckwheat hull pillow and find that it really helps - doesn't fight my mask.

I think that the adjustment period is different for everyone and finding the right mask is really important for comfort.

I am really happy that I have my machine. It's as though someone waved a magic wand and took all the fatigue away - that doesn't mean that I am never tired...anyone can have a bad night but the feeling of having been run over by a truck is gone.

Best regards,

Jersey Girl

The first night.
I was all prepared to suffer for an hour before taking it off. Next thing I knew it was 7:30 am and I hadn't moved an inch. No headache but I felt as stiff as a board and stayed awake all day flitting around running the Yule fair, came home watched tv and saw the end of a show.

About a week later (after surviving a cold - blessed cpap made a huge difference) I suddenly started waking up in the middle of the night thinking I couldn't breathe but a lift of the mask and a few words with my sleep self and it cleared up.

Recovery of mental attitudes and physical damage has taken longer.

First night. Heck, the sleep center tech said I never moved. When I did, she woke me up to say "Good morning."

2 nights now. First was 6.7 hours and last night was 6.9 hours. I woke up a few times last night - bathroom at 5:30 or so. Kept the mask off for the next 45 minutes, so add .75 to the 6.9...

My chest hurts like heck, though. I guess it's not used to working that hard. Didn't fall asleep watching TV with my wife last night, though.

I'm two and a half years on CPAP and still can't sleep through the night. Mask leaks wake me up.

I think that I am starting to see the benfits due to my recent open heart surgery. As my heart gets better/stronger I think my AHI gets better.
Great news; best wishes that it gets better n'better!

First 4 nights were from hell...I only slept during my 45-min ramps. When it when to full pressure, I woke up. 5th night 9 blessed hours...took my brain that long to learn I was going to sleep with equipment period. And. no matter how big the challenge, I was going to learn how to breath with it.

I have worn the mask from day one without missing a night. But I wont say I adjusted to wearing it for 2-3 weeks. I was waking up a lot with rain out issues, Had some leaks and was getting tangled up in the hose and the blankets. After the first 2 weeks I would say i started to get restful sleep. Then I was sleeping for marathon lengths of time for a little while.

Adjusted to it the very first night, and have never had an issue with compliance. Never have used the ramp feature, even with a current pressure of 14-18. Felt better in a day or two, but eventually things went quite a ways backwards. I have very poor sleep archtecture to begin with, and nothing (except working myself to exhaustion) has seemed to help with that.

Will hopefully soon be starting therapy with an ASV machine. That will probably take some getting used to. But I don't expect compliance to be an issue. But if what I experienced in the sleep lab is any indication, I may be well on my way to a more consistent nights' sleep.

Still not sleeping all night after 3 months, but I may have found the right mask now. I'll keep you posted.

Have had mine since March; still not sleeping throught the night with it, but I'm falling asleep sooner than when I first started, and leaving it on longer. I do feel better, & not getting up several times a night to use bathroom.

Two years and still not sleepingmore than 5-7 hours. I have asked to have my mask changed to full face mask but the DME seems to think I am doing okay according to my numbers. Geez why don't they listen to the patient. I am the one that is frustrated not the darn machine.
