New guy needs help!

Post by Chief900 » Mon Jun 07, 2010 6:58 am

Hello,

I am new here and I am looking for advice related to CPAP machines. Tomorrow I go to visit the lung doctor, to have a lung function test ? well after that apparently I get a CPAP machine.

So what do I need from my CPAP machine, what does it need to have and why?

I just dont want to end up with something that will give me problems in the future.

Many thanks in advance to all of you who reply

Chief

Lung function test?
Is it sleep apnea that is suspected, or something else?

What do you mean by "what do I need from my CPAP machine"?
Features? add-ons? something else?

If you get to choose, and it doesn't make substantial difference to the cost,
I'd suggest APAP + humidifier + (possibly) heated hose.
And of course a mask that FITS.

Hi sorry I did not make it clear.

I had a diagnosis obstructive sleep apnea, moderate to severe.

I heard that I should have a machine that records data? what data do i need to record??

Cheers

It is called "efficacy" data (as opposed to useless compliance data). Complainace data only helps the DME to prove that you are using machine ino order for them to collect from insurance.

The efficacy data is what YOU (and maybe your doc if he is any good) need to monitor and manage your therapy.

You need to be in control. Do not let them convince you that you need ot trouble yourself with details. They are good at diagnosis but only YOU can optimize your therapy.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

A machine that collects data, means to get the data to your computer (data card or cable) and software
that can show the data in human readable form.

I guess most APAPs collect data. Most CPAPs don't .
ResMed has a quite good device S9 Autoset that is considered quite good.
(In ResMed naming convention, "Autoset" typically means APAP)
About Respironics or Puritan-Bennett you need to get answers from other people that
know about them.

Read this:

The "data" includes snores, leaks, apneas and hypopneas (in addition to the time used, which is the only thing the non-data-capable machines record).
