Benefit from Light Therapy

Post by kevincoop » Sun Jun 06, 2010 8:53 pm

Hi,
I am a Respiratory Therapist for a DME (keep reading please). I am interested in getting into selling online but I can't compete against my employer unless it is on products that they don't carry. The reason that I am posting is that I received a Philips light therapy unit about 2 years ago and have had amazing results. I never would have bought one, but they were giving them away at a trade show to resellers. Actually the results were so good that I bought a second unit for work on days Im in a rush to get out the door. I also bought several units to give to family and friends. The ones that actually gave it a try have had similar results. I don't have sleep apnea so I was wondering if anyone with OSA has tried this therapy and gotten positive results.
I get to sleep very well and aside from occassional snoring, I do not have problems with apneas. My problem is waking up. I would be a zombie until 2 or 3 hours after getting ready for work. After using the light therapy (I use for 20 minutes in the morning just after waking) I feel awake immediately. My wife has the opposite problem. She cant get to sleep and uses the light in the evening and it helps wind her down to get to sleep. You can take a test and read more about circadian rhythms on http://www.lighttherapy.com or http://www.golite.philips.com/ . Apollo Health was bought out by Philips and they have some good info on their old site as well (http://www.apollo-health.co.uk/index.php). You can get some of their older units much cheaper than the new Philips units. Might be worth checking out.

I think thier products are a bit pricey for my taste, but I did find one of them wake up lights at the Goodwill yesterday and it works really nice. Mine starts to light up about an hour before I wake up and I set it for 4 A.M. for this morning to see what it will do. It started a low light and then got brighter like when the sun comes up. I like it and I'm suprized I paid about $5.00 for it. They have them at the hard ware store up by Lincare in my area and they charge over $75.00 for them and that is out of my price rqange. So those of us who are disabled can't afford things like this. We have to look for other cheap ideas so the thrift stores are a good place to look. I found mine and love it. It keeps great time and I like the way it lights up and since I can't hear the alarm, I don't need one, but the light will wake me up. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay
