Is everyone here a mouth breather -----
Re: Is everyone here a mouth breather -----
I am only a mouth breather during allergy season. I keep my chin strap and my neti pot handy.

Even when my nose is clear I breath with my mouth open when I fall asleep and need a chinstrap with my full face mask to prevent leaks and stabilize the mask.

Re: Is everyone here a mouth breather -----
A deviated septum, restricted airways / sinus cavities and pretty bad allergies caused me to be a total mouth breather my entire life (at least as long as I can remember).
Fortunately, I wasn't very congested the night of my sleep study. The first time the technician put the mask on me (a Swift FX), I felt something in my throat slap shut from the pressure. All of a sudden I was breathing through my nose with no sensation of leaking from my mouth. It was, and still is an amazing feeling. I actually look forward to strapping the mask on every night.
(In all fairness, nasal congestion made my first few weeks on CPAP horrible so the doc prescribed Nasonex, and I haven't had a congested night since it kicked-in.) I have never tried to tape my mouth or wear a chin strap. And I have no proof that I am not mouth breathing, but I never wake-up with a dry mouth anymore.
Also, the humidity soothes my irrigated esophagus, and the climate line hose prevents rainout. So I keep it cranked-up about as high as it will go. Amazing how everyone is different.

I'm not a mouth breather. I use nasal mask or nasal pillows; I don't have a full face mask.
I really prefer the nasal pillows but my partner doesn't like the exhaust blowing on him. I am out of town in a hotel this weekend and I can use my Swift FX.
