When I received my first replacement filter I was shocked at the sticker price! After reading all your posts I see a certain portion of users is of the opinion that the filter is for the machine - not for the user. It makes sense, since if you took the filter off and threw it away you would still be breathing exactly the same air you were before you put your mask on. So I'm thinking, why not cut up a shop-vac filter bag to make those little postage stamps ResMed calls filters? I realize I'm not addressing the issues those with allergies face, but sans the allergies, are there any health issues with my proposal?

Think about it from a different viewpoint.

If you didn't have the filter on there, your lungs would have been the filter.

I have the same S9 Autoset and don't have a problem with mine. In fact, the filter is so good that it takes out some fragrances from the air. I notice it when I remove the mask in the morning that the air.

Perhaps you're problem is indoor air quality? Time to get a maid? That may be the root cause of your allergy problems.

How about getting a good air filter for your room ?

>after 28 days the filter was filthy!
Which means it's working...

>I keep the area behind my machine very clean..
It's the air that matters...

>yes, the filter was filthy, but it was filthy on BOTH SIDES..
What you mean is the dirt which had been captured within the filter could be seen from both sides - which is a totally different matter.

The logic that some of you people apply to what you perceive really cracks me up.

Any homemade filter has to fit as snugly as the original, all the way around.

If there's any gap, it will provide a lower-resistance path for the air to travel through, and travel there it will.
