Issues with venting.

Post by EAsy10pins » Sat May 29, 2010 7:13 pm

Greetings.

I am presently using a AeioMed Everest 2 CPAP machine with the supplied Comfort Classic nasal mask.

I am having issues with venting when I exhale. I feel as if I have to force myself to exhale through my nose, (CO2 washout I believe is the correct term). Even with the little vent port open (and it is little).

Please forgive me but I am new to the CPAP machine. I recently returned from Afghanistan and I am trying to get used to it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm not sure what you are saying. Are you having to work hard to exhale?

Does your machine have any sort of expiratory pressure relief that decreases the pressure when you exhale? If you are finding it difficult to exhale, that will help. But not all machines have that feature.

Read up on it and perhaps talk to your sleep doctor or the DME about the possibility of trying a machine with EPR (in Philips Respironics machines, this feature is called "flex")

Your ComfortClassic is a Nasal mask that you inhale and exhale from... both through the nose.
Your mouth remains closed all the time you use CPAP.
The Vent on the mask must be clear and working all the time.
Air will pour from the vent because your machine will continue to supply air and take the CO2 out with it.
New fresh air is supplied to your nose by the machine.
When you mouth opens it is a Leak... and if you do it... it will reduce your therapy.

I'm wondering -
1. What is your pressure set to?
2. What other health issues? None is not acceptable.
3. Do you have a copy of your sleep study? Prescription?
