S8 autoset s1 and s2

Post by okitoki » Fri May 28, 2010 7:49 pm

Just found a DME that has an older series 1 for sale at a significant lower price. However it's a series 1, and was wondering what is the difference between the 1 and 2?

Thanks

About the only real difference between the S8 AutoSet Vantage and the S8 AutoSet II is that EPR is not functional in APAP mode in the S8 altho it is available in CPAP mode. Whereas the S8 II's EPR feature is available in both modes. I never found EPR of any importance or improvement in auto mode. I LOVED my Resmed S8s, both the Elite and the AutoSet Vantage. So much so that when I was switched to a bi-level I INSISTED on the Resmed VPAP Auto.

Thanks for the reply.

If that's the only difference then I will order one today.

I have both and the II series is MUCH better. It has a much more natural rhythm when breathing and is quieter. Anything less than 1/2 price and I would get the II. Image

I think the Series II also has easybreathe -- which makes a difference.

Yup, the S8 II does have the EasyBreathe technology. I went from the S8 AutoSet Vantage to the VPAP Auto and didn't notice that the breathing was any easier in auto mode between the two. The VPAP in spontaneous mode that doesn't utilize the EasyBreathe technology wasn't as smooth as in auto mode utilizing the EasyBreathe technology. But as I said I noticed no difference between the straight CPAP mode and auto mode in the Vantage or the auto mode in the VPAP Auto. But since I haven't had the opportunity to use the S8 II AutoSet I can't make that comparison.
