Full-face mask suggestions

Post by WayUpNorthInAlaska » Thu May 27, 2010 5:31 pm

I frequently have sinus congestion, so I have some nights where I need to breathe through my mouth because my nose is clogged. For many years I have used nasal masks (currently using the ResMed SoftGel after getting fed up with the Respironics ComfortGel always breaking where the strap connects to the bottom of the mask). But when I am congested, I don't find the nasal masks very effective, and I also wake up with skunk breath. Does anybody have any suggestions for good, comfortable full-face masks that cover both the nose and mouth? I do sleep on my side, and I know that can impact the seal of the masks. Thanks.

Try the ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face (UMFF) mask.

Do nasal cleansing before bedtime.

Turn the humidifier down or Off.

Look into getting a different bed pillow. "Standard" pillows can push the mask out of alignment when the head sinks into it. There are pillows that work better for this therapy than others.......and some have been designed for this therapy.

Den
(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

I have been a "side sleeper" all my life. Every Christmas I treat myself to a new pillow since they are really cheap. I have always used a "firm' or "extra firm" pillow to support my head while sleeping on my side and love it. I found that I haven't had any problems with masks or nasal pillows using the same pillow I always have. If you're using a feather pillow or a soft one, you will sink in and that causes a problem from what I have read here in the past.

I use the nasal pillow mask and a Resperonics full life mask. I go back and forth between them. Some people really like the full life mask and others hate it. I love it. It's really comfortable and I don't have any problems with leakage. Perhaps someone else here can give you some more insight into masks. I tried a few others at the sleep therapy place and didn't like them.

Dear Wayupnorthinalaska,

My husband is a newbie - just started on cpap on April 29. He loves his Mirage Quatro. He finds it seals easily and doesn't stick out too far and is comfortable for him to sleep with. He highly recommends it.

Best regards,

Jersey Girl
