Ladies and moisturizers

Post by jazzer4 » Wed May 26, 2010 4:05 pm

Ladies. No one ever told me not to use moisturizers on my face at night. OK, the insturctions with the mask do say that, but they COULDN'T MEAN ME!!!
So, I just followed my usually routine after washing my face I used my night cream. For those of you who are laughing, if someone had ever told me the reason to not us it, I would have listened. So, for those new like me, this is why they tell you not to use moistureizers at night. Simply, it breaks down the seal and you'll need to order part much more ofter because your mask will start to leak way before it should. What's a few wrinkles compared to a good nights sleep. There's always something new to learn.

THERE is always something new to learn!

I just use one of the cleansing pads on my face every night, or I take a shower before bed, breath in all that nice warm moist air..

I have never used a moistureizer, so didnt have to find out about the seal leakage, glad youre such a good guinea pig!

hope you have some sweet dreams

I use a moisturizer every night, I never really thought about it hurting my mask.

I've also read that sometimes moisturizers will help the mask seal better if a person has dry skin. So I've gone back to using my moisturizer which seems to help both the seal (if I use sparingly) and my chapped skin. I think I will be more careful about wiping off my mask every morning, though. Thanks for the tip!

Do whatever works best for you. I have hideously dry skin, with bouts of eczema; there's no way I can go without moisturizer. My leak rate is better with the moisturizer, and I only wash the mask every couple of weeks. It's completely worth it to me to have to replace the seals more frequently if that's what it takes. Like so much of XPAP therapy, it's a very individual thing.

Dry easily irritated skin here. Rub face with half a grape & let sit for 3-5 mins makes a really sticky mess but it's great! Helps shed those old skin cells. Wash face; since I started using the fresh grape at night, my skin is much less irritated or dry. I wear the Hybrid so there's plenty of skin left to apply DermaE's alphalipoderm facial repair which will degrade silicon...learned that the hard way

Thanks again for posting this info. I suspect my moisturizer did cause my mask to break down rather quickly. (Is 3 weeks normal?) With new replacement parts, I'm now going without moisturizer and will see if the mask lasts longer. But my skin is so chapped.

You may want to use a liner between you and the mask - that way you can use a moisturizer.

Yes, you're right, if you have a cream with ahas, glycolic, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or somesuch it does degrade the seal. I use a day cream which has spf 15, and a night cream, both of which are for acne, so they have strong ingredients in them. I too, messed up my first mask seal because I was not warned. But I have a solution.

All you have to do is wear the creams during the day. I put on my day eye cream and day cream when I arise, then about dinner time, I wash my face and do the night regime. Then right before bed, I wash everything off with ivory soap, as well as the mask seal, and it works well. My skin is clear and beautiful, and the mask isn't all leaky.

Great idea! Do you have a suggestion for a liner?

Thank you for sharing what has worked for you. Sounds like a great plan for me to try also.

Might be less messy to use grapeseed oil from the grocery store...won't break you out...and easier to apply than smashing a grape all over your face!

Here;s something else to try. Lately, my skin has been pretty irritated, so after the grape treatment and washing-drying, I apply 1-2 drops of DermaE's vitamin C gel all over my face. Used to use this with my OptiLife mask and now with my Hybrid...no breakdown of the silicon!

I think the official ones are called Remzzzz's
For my quatro I just made something out of some well washed fine cotton knit fabric (old pair of panties) Just lay it on the fabric and cut around then cut a small hole , fit and adjust hole. My skin doesn't like the masks. for my hybrid I have a piece on the chin part and a strip on the upper lip part.

I looked up http://www.remzzzs.com and didn't see a liner offered for the Mirage Liberty. I will need to make one like you did for a hybrid. Thanks so much for the info!
