S9 ClimateLine Tubing Covered?

Post by happysleeper » Wed May 26, 2010 11:07 am

Hello you knowledgeable folks,

I have recently switched from the S8 Autoset to the S9. I like the idea of climate control, to get better control of rainout and benefit from a little bit of higher humidity. But I haven't started it yet out of concern for safety with the tubing--I'm using my standard tubing until I figure this out. In the past with my S8 and OptiLife mask I:

* kept the tube heading down from the bottom of the mask, under my covers and then out to my side toward the machine, holding it gently in my hand so that I can adjust the mask/tube position of comfort for my best sleep as I move/turn my head, and
* used a flannel hose cover because it's softer to the touch than the hard plastic hose tubing.

I'd like to do the same with the climate control tubing for the S9--keep it under my blankets so I can control the position, and cover the tube with the flannel cover. However, The S9 Autoset II Clinical Manual, on page 31, states, "Avoid covering the ClimateLine with materials such as sheets or blankets."

I called Resmed, who said that they "could not advise me that I can do something other than what the manual stated". Of course. So my question to all of you adventurers is: Is anyone out there sleeping with the ClimateLine tube covered under blankets/tube cover? If so, have you noticed the machine over heating, or has it adjusted to the change in surroundings the way it would with ambient air temperature?

Thanks,

Happy Sleeper

ResMed is quoting legal jargon for liability issues I am sure.

I use the CL under my pillow and under the sheets every night w/o adverse effects.
I have read some others here have used a tubing cover and in fact CPAP.com sells a ResMed product for covering the tubing on ClimateLine.

I use the climateline and sleep with the tubing under my covers with me. So far I have not had any issues.

I've been using a tubing cover with my climate line without problems. With the cover on I can lower the tubing temp and still prevent rainout. I like humidity but not too warm.
