Dry Ears

Post by mynameisangel » Mon May 24, 2010 10:12 am

I've been using a CPAP for two years now and I notice that my ears are very dry. Its as if the pressure in my ears drys out the wax and at times causes irriation. Has anyone else had this problem. I have to use a very high pressure 13.5 so maybe that has something to do with my issues. Any thoughts.

Hi, 13.5 isn't "that" high actually. Do you have other ear symptoms when you're on Cpap, or are you just sort of guessing at a connection? Have you asked an ENT MD (not whether there is a connection, necessarily, but what other possibilities might exist)? In other words, I wouldn't lead an MD to assume there's a connection, but would wonder what they might see on their own that could be going on.

I have had many more ear & eye infections since using C pap. I know the tube that drain from the eye drains to the sinus and is under pressure from the cpap. Also if I remember the ear is connected in some way. My last trip to doctor to deal with ear infection. he gave me a Rx to deal with infection and also gave me a hand out with instruction to make my own ear drops. I have found that since i have use the home made ear drops I have had no problem.
To make prevention ear drops:
90% rubbing alcohol (to dry the ear)
10% white vinegar (to acidify & prevent infection)3 drops each ear after bath swim.
Also I just use the drops when i feel ear is dry or starting to feel irritated.

I have been prone to ear infections since I was a child. So thats a few hundred years now

I have been taking extra measures to clean out my ear canals now and then just like i take extra time to clear my nasal passages. Hopefully a bit of preventive maintenance will minimize those problems.
