increase your humidity a little. More than likely your sinuses have had enough of the pressure after 1.5 hours causing you to pull the mask off. Adjust the humidity level before you start changing pressures.

Why doesn't S9 have a leak/mask off alert?? Wish I knew that before!

Seems like I've heard some people tape the mask to their face in a few places...so when they try to remove the mask...the tape pulls their skin...and they wake up before the mask comes off. You might try that. (Hopefully I didn't read that in this particular thread! ) Ahhh, I love getting older....

you could try putting the mask on first. Then adding a chin strap. I would use one similar to the Tiara topaz...it has alot of girth to it verses just a simple strap chinstrap.

I sleep with a shoelace tied around my head. Can't take the mask off without working at it a little bit--more than I'd probably do if asleep. I use it to hold my nasal pillows in place, but you could try it just to give you a little more resistance when taking it off.

First off, you are right about probably being in REM when that happens. A person goes into REM about every 90 minutes.

From my experience titrating people on xPAP, you may be developing a leak during REM. When you wake up with a mouth leak, you may tear your mask off. I would suggest a chin strap.

Other people on this post are 100% correct about new users pulling off their masks. It is fairly common but it gradually goes away as you get used to it. When I first started CPAP I did the same thing. Now it is like my favorite pillow. I wouldn't give it up for anything.

I finally found it!

Early this morning, I woke up suddenly with some discomfort, and "caught" my hands trying to take the mask off!! At the very same moment, the upper left corner of the mask was leaking strongly towards my left eye, I think that was what woke me up.

I stopped myself and went back to sleep then everything was ok.

What I wonder is, was the mask leaking towards my eye and did I try to take the mask off because of that?
Or I was trying to take the mask off, so the mask began to leak?
I'm not sure.

I was very comfortable with my mask, but should I tighten it a little more in this case?

Good job troubleshooting. I think you are very close to having your gear tuned. From what I've seen and experienced, leaks will cause someone to wake up and maybe pull the mask off. Try the adjustment that you mentioned. Sometimes it takes loosening a particular strap to balance out the mask on your face. But, if you seem to be chasing leaks often, you may want to consider a different mask. It took me 2 or 3 different masks before I found the "perfect" one for me. Keep us posted!

Well, I've gained some more talent and experience(!) about sleeping with my mask ON since my last post:) I don't take it off anymore.

I also received my pulse oximeter Contec CMS-50D today so I'm very happy:) I ordered it from the dealer at http://door2doorshop.com and the item arrived lightning fast (Not even one week)! I've really had a great buying experience, much better than any international purchase I've made until now. The dealer is very responsive and helpful. You should see what he did to save me any possible issues I would have at the customs

I'm still trying to understand the device though. When I set the low Spo2 and PR alarm ON, it suddenly started to beep loudly and I couldn't find a way to stop it until I put my finger in. I was expecting the alarm to go off only when the finger was in, or at least a way to stop it beeping like crazy when not in use. Also, you have to start each recording manually and set the time again when you start a recording. It's frustrating having to repeat the same process each time..
