Journey into S9

Post by cpapernewbie » Fri May 21, 2010 2:33 pm

wishing and hoping for a new shiny S9 to reach me next week-end. In the mean time, I should do something to prepare for this baby

1. install Rescan 3.10 -
this is a no-brainer. After downloading, what you do is just a few clicks and it is installed. Much much simpler than the Encore pro 2.2 where I have to pause and do a search for software components that were missing and need to be installed first before EP 2.2 can be installed.

2. tracking the UPS package

continued next week-end

Harry
thanks for your pointer.... any tips which areas to focus. Humidfiier? I read that many has humidifier issues

On the other hand, I am very happy with PR System One humidifier, it is very solid and the plastic is very well built and designed. Works great vs the M series humidifier (especially the 1st gen M series which looks very el-cheapo)

My issue with PR System One is the poor LCD screen, very hard to read if you are above 40 years old (probably it is designed only for RTs who are fresh grads in their 20s). The black and white LCD is not well thought off probably to get into the market fast before Resmed S9). I also have issues with the software, but this is not serious since I am using the Pro 2.2 which is not for laymen like me, but they are suppose for professional use only. If you are using Encore Viewer, this should not be an issue.

I am immune from the high pitch noise that annoyed some hifi users in this esteem forum but I am aware that some PR System One may exhibit more decibels than you care to hear when sleeping.

The bag is not an issue with me, it is very light and this is good for travelling, which I intend to do. When travelling to Florida which I intend to do this fall, I will be accompanied by PR System One - minus the humidifier which will stay at home. This will safe lots of space and with the right shoe I will be able to run from one end of the airport to a hot spot corner

congrats on your s 9 journey!

Here is my learning curve experience going from the pr system one a flex to the s nine.. warning: I am a three month novice!

I found the sweet spot on the humidity level really quickly on the pr system one.

I struggled with finding the sweet spot with the s9 WITHOUT the climate tubing..

i think I FOUND the sweet spot on the s9 without the tubing, then the tubing arrived!

EVERYTHING CHANGED AGAIN!

With the climate tubing, the s9 performed MORE like the system one..
without the climate tubing it performed like a creature from another planet, but I think I did figure it out..
I do believe this s9 is designed to really be used with the climate tubing.

(I heard the climate tubing can come apart at the joints, so I ordered some clear silicone tape from amazon.com )

I sleep in a cold room.. fifty three degrees..
my sweet spot is now.. 3.5 humidity.
temp at 80
ramp with nose pillows 4 to twenty.. yes, I know Im a wuss, but I cant start at five, tried again last night.. cant do it with nose pillows..
I can start at eight with fitlife face mask though..
ALSO I WOULD MESS AROUND WITH THE HUMIDITY, RAMP, PRESSURE DURING THE DAY.. BEFORE YOU ARE TIRED AND WANT TO GO TO SLEEP..
Read the little booklet that comes with the machine, and a see which pages on the clinicians manual (print off net) tell you how to get into the clincians menu to show your ahi, and set your ramp, and all that..
Also, it takes about ten or fifteen minutes to warm that humidifier up, press the button on the right when you are getting ready for bed for
three seconds.. and it will be ready after you brush your teeth and get your jammies on!

Elena,

thanks very much for your tips and tricks. After reading your comments, I read the Clinician manual, downloaded from a website (thank god for Google and CPAP self help websites. I have to admit hat you are very correct, there are too many parameters in the humidifier settings that it looks that we need to be certified to be a B747 pilot before we can set this humidifier correctly to our room environment and desired output - humidity and temp

what I wonder is how Cpaper can survive? Are the DME pretty good in supporting users of S9?

Not every users is as smart as Elena, what happened to the rest of us?

What i like about PR System One is that the humidifier is so simple to set up and give great result (at least to me in the last 3 months)
