CPAP noise

Post by Bill Wong » Tue May 18, 2010 10:50 am

After I use my CPAP for about 3 hours, I hear the drumb noise every time when I inhale.
I suspect the noise comes from the condensed water in the tube. After I flush the tube with water, the noise is gone.
However, after another 3 hours, the noise comes back again every time when I inhale. The noise not only annoys me but also my girlfriend.
I do not want to get up from my sleep 2 to 3 times a night to flush the tube. Does any one has the same problem?

Try turning down your humidifier, Maybe a hose cozy . It definitely sounds like water in the hose.

for hose condensation i turn down the humidity a little. I have a hose cover for the hose and sleep with as much hose as i can tucked close to my body. Make sure your machine is positioned much lower than your mask so any condensation in the hose will drain back to your machine and not into your mask. Welcome to the group.

This happens to me. I solved it by getting a hose snuggie and instead of running the tube over my head, I put it under the covers with me to help keep it warm close to my body.

I'll be honest with you - I went a totally different route.

Basically, I got sick of dealing with the humidifier, so I just stopped using it.

My nose was sore and I was relatively uncomfortable for about a week.

After that, my nasal passages started to adapt and get used to it. Now I don't use a humidifier at all and I couldn't be happier. No muss, no fuss. No cleaning of the bloody chamber, no worries about the hose and all that mess.

If you are willing to give it 7-10 days, I'd absolutely suggest trying it. I know I'm glad I did.

Our bodies are amazingly good at adapting if we give them a chance!

another different approach you want to try.

Buy a room humidifier. Cheap, for less than $20 you can buy one from Craiglist or even new (mine was $18 NEW, the filter is around the same for 6 filters from Amazon)

Switch it on and when you are using CPAP and its humidifier, the noise will fight with each other and the room humidifier with its steady white noise will win and you no more hear any noise from your CPAP and its humidifier.

You don't describe your setup at all so make sure the machine is lower than your head/bed. So the water will run back to the humidifier.

Turning down/off the humidifier will help as will a hose cover but keeping the machine down low is also a biggie. You also can use the HH with the heat off (passover mode).

If you still have problems be sure to let us know the make and model of your equipment and the settings of the humidifier plus your mask make/model and pressure settings can help us help you.

Yes exactly this. If I end up with that at night, I disconnect the tube, shake the water out and turn down the humifier.
