Resmed™ S9 Climateline hose durability
Re: Resmed™ S9 Climateline hose durability
Uncle_Bob, as far as you know, ResMed hasn't yet redesigned the ClimateLine tubing to be more durable and brought them to market, have they? For now, they're replacing with the same hose, yes?

That is correct. They have acknowledged the need to a redesign and are currently working on one. My replacement was the original design.DreamOn wrote:Uncle_Bob, as far as you know, ResMed hasn't yet redesigned the ClimateLine tubing to be more durable and brought them to market, have they? Thanks for the info! I plan to purchase the S9 Autoset very soon, so it looks like I won't get in on the redesigned hose initially but that's okay.Uncle_Bob wrote:That is correct. And they gave no indication on how long it would take to come up with a new hose.DreamOn wrote: Thanks for the info! I plan to purchase the S9 Autoset very soon, so it looks like I won't get in on the redesigned hose initially but that's okay.
I hope the S9 works out well for you

Thanks. I have no doubt that it will.Uncle_Bob wrote:I hope the S9 works out well for you

I wonder if that decision was made with the idea that most of the hoses will fail after the warranty period when they can say 'sorry that is out of warranty, buy a new one'. Just a 'customer no-service' cynical thought.Uncle_Bob wrote:Only on failureLlama wrote:Proactively or only upon failure? Make no mistake. Planned obsolescence is part of all design criteria in the marketplace today.fiberfan wrote:...

All manufactured items and their components could be designed to last for quite a long time. They are intentionally designed not to.
Wikipedia wrote:Origins of planned obsolescence go back at least as far as 1932 with Bernard London's pamphlet Ending the Depression Through Planned Obsolescence. However, the phrase was first popularized in 1954 by Brooks Stevens, an American industrial designer. Stevens was due to give a talk at an advertising conference in Minneapolis in 1954. Without giving it much thought, he used the term as the title of his talk.
From that point on, "planned obsolescence" became Stevens' catchphrase. By his definition, planned obsolescence was "Instilling in the buyer the desire to own something a little newer, a little better, a little sooner than is necessary."

While I don't like planned obsolescence, this is worse. Don't replace a known faulty product because most users will eventually have to pay for a replacement. Make me think about stressing mine before it is 3 months old. If I am being kinder, perhaps most won't see the problem before the normal replacement time on the hose.DreamDiver wrote:Planned obsolescence is part of all design criteria in the marketplace today.
I love the Climateline hose, just wish ResMed's approach to the problem was better.

Along the same lines, I dislike the disposable trend too. For instance, this particular humidifier chamber is designed to be replaced every six months...fiberfan wrote:While I don't like planned obsolescence, this is worse. Unlike the more reusable one that is designed to go into a dishwasher. This is the one that should have been included with the S9 when we bought it.

The only reason to develop a disposable tank is purely to create more sales. It comes with a proposed expiry date on the side. This item isn't recyclable. There is no ethical, moral, sustainable or medical reason for creating such a humidifier chamber. It is a purely sales-driven ploy that I find disturbing and outrageous. It offends me that they even offer a disposable one.

OK i got my F4 tape last night. I did a very quick and sloppy job of applying it but its doing its job.

Re: Resmed™ S9 Climateline hose durability
An old post of mine from 2009,outlining the same problem with a standard ResMed hose attatched to an H3i humidifier.
The Aussie Heated Hose has it beat hands down.

Above is my cpap tubing with the left side tubing wall membrane 'stretched'.
This happened from connecting directly to the angled port on the ResMed cpap humidifier and not supporting the cpap hose at the same angle.
When you remove the tubing from the cpap or humidifier and do not grip the tubing cuff, you may rupture the tubing wall as well.
The weight of the insulated hose hanging down eventually caused this.
I did not notice until I removed the insulated cover that was on the tube.
Also in the picture on the right is a Parker Elbow Adaptor, which attatches to the tubing and connects to your cpap or humidifier.
The elbow adaptor helps extend the life of the tubing by reducing "tube flexing" at the cpap and humidifier.
This adaptor and information was included with the Sleepzone Heated Tube I recently purchased.
I am taking the old cpap tube over to LinkC's place to siphon some gas.

Yeah but just because they offer it does not mean you have to take itDreamDiver wrote: The only reason to develop a disposable tank is purely to create more sales. My disposable tank does not really look any less durable than my H4i tank, touch wood

Re: Resmed™ S9 Climateline hose durability
I spoke today with the ResMed rep here in Toronto, telling him about the concerns expressed with hoses leaking and, limited supply of hoses (I've been waiting over a month for a Climate-line).
He is aware of a durability problem with the S9 hoses but thinks it is not a big a problem as it is being made out to be by users. He has assurred me that ResMed is on top of this and that hoses should be available by late next week.
