Surgery and CPAP

Post by gfk » Sun May 09, 2010 8:53 am

Does anyone have any experience with having surgery and being able to use your CPAP machine while a patient in the hospital?

I will probably be having mastoid surgery on my ear in the near future. I am quite concerned about my sleep apnea since I will have general anesthesia. I also am concerned if I will be able to adapt my mask to accomodate the banadage over my ear after surgery. I feel really anxious about not having my CPAP to be available to me as soon as I wake from anesthesia.

Many people have.
It would be advisable that you talk to your doctor and the hospital and coordinate all that with them.
Some people are asked to bring their own and in other cases, the hospitals have machines for the patient......but they would need to know your prescription settings.

Good luck with your surgery.

I have a similar concern...I am scheduled for nasal surgery to remove polyps and correct a deviated septum. My doctor told me that I cannot use CPAP for 3 nights. I'm planning to sleep sitting up in a recliner....any other suggestions would be appreciated.
